So my £30 Sony died after 15 yrs - may just be the PSU which I should look into.

Is there something with Bluetooth for not too much £? It can literally have Radios 2, 4 and 6 only 😂

Don't they listen to you shagging?

Get one with a good display, preferably an automatically adjusting one.

I've got 2, and one sounds ok but the clock is wayyyyyy too bright, and the other has a great display but is a bit tinny. So I use both. One day I'll buy a third to see if it can both sound nice and not require sunglasses

The small Echo Show is actually a pretty good alarm clock. The ambient light sensor changes the screen when its dark so it doesn't blind you at night, and if you whisper to Alexa she whispers back which is ... interesting. Almost ASMR.

@muffinman it's a modern DAB one, those from the 80s of our youth will go forever

@eskay I'm not sure there's enough of that happening to concern Cougar 😅

@jimmy actually that could work, I take my phone to bed. Does its display re orientate in landscape position? Like many mine charges at night, the cable comes out of its bottom, I guess I could make a rack that works horizontally.

Possibly…. But not sure what value they gather from a few minutes of heavy breathing 🙂

@cynic-al of you want a night clock it's a separate app by the same guy, called.... Night Clock! That rotates with the phone. The night clock is somehow unpredictable in getting its features to work (like come on when charging) but after years of sleeping without a clock next to bed I found it just disturbed my sleep, like my body was going "Jimmy, wake up, wake up!!!"

- what?

"What time is it???!"

So I don't use it any more.

Look at Pure. We've one where the display is off unless you press a button and then it's subtle.

Radio is a little thin sounding but it is a radio alarm clock, not a PA system so it does the job nicely.

Has USB too so if required can use it as a through charger

I've got a Pure Move T4. It's primarily a portable radio rather than dedicated clock radio, but it's got multiple alarms and works as a Bluetooth speaker too. Nice and compact, decent sound and the battery lasts ages. Not that cheap, but you're worth it.

I just got a cheap Roberts FM self adjusting clock radio.

For all the time I listen to the radio in the am before getting up.....

Certainly couldn't be ****ed with playing with my phone or echo it's just adding complexity to something that has no need to be connected to the internet of things.

Clock radio - Pah! I'll see you a white Sonos 1 and a Swan Teasmade. Let me tell you that nothing beats that pleeuuuughhhh-whoosh sound and an alarm for the Today program with freshly brewed tea.

The Today programme???

I'd find it more relaxing being woken up by the hot tea being squirted directly into my eyes tbh

OP, if you really want to keep it old school you're welcome to an old Sony Dream Machine (ICF-C253 I think) I've got sitting in a cupboard. I don't expect I'm every going to have a use for it again.

if you whisper to Alexa she whispers back

She does, aside from the first time you do it, where she bellows "IT LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE TRYING TO ENABLE WHISPER MODE!" across the bedroom at 2am.

I’m not sure there’s enough of that happening to concern Cougar 😅

Sad but true.

Thanks @Cougar for taking that in its intended spirit.

Besos entering space in his penis shaped rocket yesterday only underlined my desire not to fund that kind of business. Not sure Google are much better but I might try their thingmy.

Anyways I splashed on a Pure, it was a refurb at least, satisfying my "tightest man in Scotland" moniker (thanks @sanny)

@cynic-al - where from? I've now decided I need to rid my phone from my bedroom at night so am in the market. Ideally I want something portable, WiFi connected and half decent sound. I think that's another Sonos but needn't be *that* good.

We had a great Sony that died after 20 years. Bought a new Sony which was hateful. Bought a Ruark R1 direct as a slight second. Expensive but about the save as used on eBay. It's fab

I'm mulling one of these

https://www.johnlewis.com/sonos-roam-smart-speaker-with-voice-control/black/p5453791

Its overkill, but then it will do a lot more, namely improve my garage audio.

Sonos sounds great but their app is a hateful thing. Id say about 30% of the times I use my sonos it can't find the speaker and I have to faff around disconnecting it and setting it up from scratch. I'd not buy another sonos.

@franksinatra mine used to do the same and hateful is a good word for my thoughts on Sonos... Then I fannied around with the band settings in my broadband admin settings. I don't know what I did, but ever since it has worked first time every time. Have you tried that at all, or know where to start (asking because I hadn't / didn't).
