...those of you with a certain taste in music will absolutely love his stuff, others won't.
Thanks to my older sister in 1982 when I was a mere 10 years old she subjected me to many hours of his music, Im by no means a diehard fan, however some of his music and guitar solos are fantastic.
Night train to Munich
over to you...
I'll think you'll find Al, it's actually the year of the Ox.
Surely it’s Alf?

Musician friend of mine who introduced me to him and others like Gordon Giltrap used to say "why play one note when you can play 20!"
Saw him play live about 30 years ago....really was very good
Not my usual sort of music, but I have a bit of a soft spot.
I used to pinch my sisters cassettes. I took one that had Zep 4 on one side, and the other side was "Past, present, and future".
It seemed really deep to me as a 10 year old - I particularly liked the songs about Mother Russia, and it was the first time I'd heard of Nostradamus
Saw the thread and wondered if he'd started recording with Joe Cocker...
To a child of the 70s year o't cat is just ingrained, all silk dresses and patchouli...
But the drum-beat strains of the night remain
In the rhythm of the newborn day
You know sometime you're bound to leave her
But for now you're going to stay
In the year of the cat
...was the very height of sophistication. Anyway, I'll try the above recs.
‘Year Of The Cat’ is still an album I enjoy listening to, but I also had ‘Time Passages’ and ‘Russians And Americans’ on vinyl, neither of which I liked as much. Now I’m using Apple Music I’m downloading lots of stuff I wouldn’t have bothered buying, (I don’t stream at all), so I might download some of his earlier albums out of curiosity.
Year of the Cat is my favourite song and the album of the same name my favourite album. The albums before and after YOTC Modern Times and Time Passages are also excellent. Saw him live at the Albert Hall in 2013 and its one of the best gigs I've ever been to. He played Year of the Cat in its entirety with all but one of the original musicians that played on the album. He told stories about each of the songs (he thought Sand in Your Shoes should have been the single- little did he know). bought this poster on the night and it still hangs in my study

There was a music swapping club when I was an apprentice, before the days of Spotify and the like, when CD's had just become the new "in-thing". Ended up with an Al Stewart CD, 30 years later, YOTC is still one of my favourite songs.... Great poster @uponthedowns !
