Just seen the result, unable to watch last night as we're in deepest Wales 9n holiday. Looks like the possible flaws that Tyson and Deontay have previously spoke about showed themselves last night.
Some serious work to do for the rematch....
It must be on the tinternet by now .
He's always looked like he hasn't got the best chin. He was rocked by Whyte and in his last fight. Klitschko had him on the deck. Plus he seems to go through stages in fights where he exhausts himself and is a bit of a sitting duck.
He'll probably win the rematch if he boxes properly but I wouldn't fancy his chances against Wilder now with the power that guy has in his right hand.
Despite his appearance, Ruiz is no bum. Very fast hands. Stuck to his game plan. Didn’t let the moment get to him. Very well done.
AJ looked and sounded totally lost. Think he wins a rematch but wilder and fury will put him away easily.
Mate who watched it who is a bit of a boxer (know it all) himself reckons he just ran out of steam in round 3 and looked uninterested. Perhaps he himself underestimated ruiz.
Personally, I don't think boxing is a clean sport. Amazing results like this always make me wonder.
Didn't see that one coming!
Classy Twitter post from big Tyson afterwards.
Was he just gassed? Kind of happened against Klitschko but he managed to hang on and recover later on - sounds like Ruiz didn't give him any time to recover, chapeau.

Put two big blokes like that in a ring and there are no guarantees.
Its on youtube.
Joshua really is another Bruno; body beautiful but a robot. Fair play to Bruno he had a better chin though!
Joshua not got a real fighters instinct or heart. He basically quit at the end. Joshua was tired and demoralized because it wasnt going his own way ... typical bully getting bullied at end and just quitting.
Wilder is as crude a champion there has ever been. But one of his wild swing would land at some point .. and Joshua wouldnt get up from one of those like Fury did.
Fury has little power in his punches at heavyweight; but he would box rings around Joshua. Joshua relies on his size and heavy hands.
Fury and Wilder will be devastated their big pay day just got halved ... even if Joshua wins the rematch.
Well, that wasnt supposed to happen!
It was a weird performance - Bruno is not even a fair comparison to that showing - cos Bruno always showed heart and TRIED to knock the other guy out. Joshua was terrible from the start, threw 8 punches per round according to the US commentary (compared to 40 normally). I didn't see him throw a single body shot to that big 'ol target. And worst of all he had no recuperative powers at all (which was strange cos he has in previous fights).
Even in the press conference he doesn't seem bothered about it.
Very strange. Hopefully a blip.
One thing's for sure - if Wilder hits him, it's over. So he best avoid that fight!
When you got millions in the bank already I guess its hard to motivate yourself.
I am not sure his confidence will ever return after that. He was out skilled and seriously rattled by pretty much every clean shot.
Throwing body shots to a shorter guy with faster hands ... who rattles you everytime ... that wouldnt have ended any better!
I think if he does return to the top; it will have to be like another chinny banger like Wlad. Jab & grab!!
Agree about the body shots, but he didn’t even try in rnd 1/2... just did nothing! Then swung like a amateur when he did catch him.
Just watched this.
He just didn't seem interested after the 2 knockdowns. Didn't seem interested afterwards either.
I wouldn't be surprised if he jacks it in. Although a rematch in the UK will make some money, so probably that.
I don't believe a lot of boxing matches anymore. His fight with Klitschko seemed all a bit too "Rocky" to me.
Yes - he didnt seem too bothered.
When Lennox Lewis got knocked out he was up on rubbery legs walking towards his opponent to carry on; when Tyson had his 1st loss to Douglas his heart and instinct had him scrambling whilst on his knees to put his gumshield back in to fight on ... when Joshua got knocked down he spat his gumshield across the ring, turned his back and basically showed the ref he had enough.
The top of Heavyweight boxing is all about money and business. Titles and prestige mean very very little. Joshua knows he has another multi million pound pay day at the end of the year no matter the result last night.
It will be interesting to hear the excuses over the next few weeks ... I wonder if they will mention Joshuas return to VADA affecting his performance?

True they will miss they big pay day now that they see how Joshua fought ... 😢 😄
As for the Andy Ruiz Jr he is true fighter fast hands and powerful. Not to be underestimated especially when he only lose once even that lose is debatable.
Ruiz caught Joshua in the right temple in the first knocked down and that totally shaken Joshua out as he was already gone, Joshua never recovered since that round. Later in the rounds you can see Joshua was also gasping for air and especially the 3rd knocked down. The 4th knock down Joshua was gone only to get up to maintain his dignity. If he was to continue and to get knock down I think he would get severe injury to his head just like Nigel Benn vs Gerald McClellan, where McClellan was gasping for air near the end of the fight.
Well done to the Mexican Andy Ruiz Jr! What a fighter 👍👍👍
Fury has been quietly going up in my estimation as a person. His tweet after Joshua's defeat was a nice touch.

None of the knockdowns were particularly heavy. And the fight wasnt a gruelling fight ... punch stats were very low; so it was absolutely nothing like the Benn v McClellan fight.
And from memory - what people picked up with hindsight that McCLellan was doing towards the end of that fight was blinking in obvious distress.
Brain injuries in boxing are thankfully rare; and most are in the lower weights where dehydration is a factor ... I cant think of it ever happening in a heavyweight contest.
I think the talk of future fights, wilder signing up Ortiz and Fury maybe a factor. He was so into making a statement that the plan went out the window. I think he gassed after trying to take Ruiz out after the first knock down. There didnt seem to be a plan B other than the jab jab hook they mentioned earlier on in the week. I hope Joshua comes back stronger and does the business. Whilst there are a lot of detractors out there but there is no denying he can inspire the next generation and demonstrates what it is to be true sportsman/ professional ( in winning and losing).
I reckon Ruiz's phone is ringing with Parker, Whyte, Usyk and Klitchko on the other end.
Reminds me of the other fight with the fat guy winning against the adonis at heavyweight 🙂
it was absolutely nothing like the Benn v McClellan fight
Agreed, nothing even close.
Agreed, nothing even close.
He’s trolling as usual. Plus his mastery of perfect English and Cockney rhyming slang seems to have done its usual disappearing act just so he can keep up his act
Never really been a fan of Joshua, just something about him. I have watched his last few fights and he does always seem to tire after the 2nd or 3rd round then only being able box for half the round before needing the rest to recover.
I think he may be finished after that result, Ruiz doesn't need to fight him again in a rematch, he could make money fighting others, maybe even wilder or fury that would be a bigger payday than a Joshua rematch. Gutted for Joshua as I like him but his boxing ability/heart were seriously undermined Saturday night.
Agreed, nothing even close.
It was probably the last fight he watched, so had to try and compare somehow....
is he just too nice?
"jab jab hook", a small head and a long reach is all he's got isn't it? no ferocity, not much ring-craft.
massively cynical about the result and AJ's reaction but wonder if I've watched too many films about boxing being manipulated by money, power and betting.
I think you have - that wasn't someone throwing a fight.
Watched an interview this morning - AJ says how he's earned loads, "so if it ended today.." Sounds to me like his heart just isn't in the game. If he hasn't got this desire to be seen as one of the "greatest of all time" like Lewis had, then why would a multi-millionaire want to be smacked in the face by big heavyweights to top up the bank balance? If he's achieved his goals, he's gonna need new motivation come the rematch (or whatever he does next).
I thought he definitely showed ferocity and a desire to take other fighter's head's off in his early bouts, but maybe that's gone with contentment.
There are too many titles and too much money involved for the money men hanger-ons to be fixing fights like in the pre-1960s.
When a hyped boxer turns professional the promoter will ensure the first dozen or so opponents are nothing more than tomato cans to knock over. Those early fights are for the highlight real to make out the prospect is a KO wrecking machine.
Its not until they step up to a higher level that we see the real ability .. or lack of.
