Has anyone tried a pair. Ignore the cost, it would be a present. Are they any good?
A present? Ah, go on then. Address in profile.
I honestly can't say, from the point of view of how well they link to the phone, and how well they maintain contact, but I really do like the regular EarPods, they stay in place in my ears pretty well, and I can honestly say I've spent a bloody sight more on 'phones with much poorer sound quality!
I've just got a new pair, the cable of my first pair is a bit iffy, although the biro spring, epoxy glue and heat-shrink tubing that I've put round the plug is holding up better than I expected.
They did come with an iPhone 5, though, and I have got another pair which I've 'mislaid' around the house somewhere.
That's one thing the AirPods never have an issue with! Losing one might be a very real issue, if I was going to use them, I'd get one of those thin cords you use to keep glasses round your neck and attach it to the Pods, just to avoid dropping one.
Having to keep them charged, especially when away, camping or suchlike, when there's phones and stuff as well, would bug me after a while.
It's a swings and roundabouts thing, really; sound-wise, I'm a fan of them, or the wired version anyway, but it's the other practical issues I'm not sure about.
Just my thoughts, not sure if it helps.
This is the sort of cord I was thinking of, the rubber bit fits around the bottom of the earpiece, so if one drops out, it won't get lost or trodden on:

They wouldn't stay in my ears and didn't sound great. Bought Beats X in the end. Doesn't look like I've got electric toothbrush heads in my ears either
As above. They absolutely didn't fit my ears and would stay in. If I held them they didn't sound that great either.
Nice concept but a no from me
If they fit then they're OK. As you'd expect, a similar sound to the Apple ear pods that come with the iPhone. They have some nice tech touches and their charging set up is neat.
They don't fit me and I do not like the sound of them or the regular Apple buds. I just got a bluetooth adapter for my IEMs when the 3.5mm jack disappeared from my phone. Works fine and now there's no wire drag when I take the phone out of my pocket.

Note that they are not available for another six weeks currently.

I have them, at first I was skeptical but I tried a friends pair for a day and was sold.
Yes, as most say above they don't sound as good as other wired headphones at that price (Bose etc.) and they don't cancel out much noise so if you're on a busy street they will sound quiet, however I don't see that as a downside as I can still head what's going on around me. The sound quality is good enough.
They seem to fit me well, and I have no issues with them falling out, I've tried running, cycling and shaking my head around until I was dizzy and they stayed in well, I've had a moment where I took a jumper off and pulled one out but that's it. Having full freedom from wires is great (not like the beats that are two tethered together), if I'm using one or both at work simple things like going across to my shelves or wandering to the kitchen to make a brew and being able to just leave my phone on my desk is great. Not getting tangled with my coat collar or having a wire pull when walking makes a nice change.
The charging thing bothered me at first but battery life is good, I can use one for a few hours til it dies, swap to the other and pop the first one back in the case and that will keep me going for nearly a week. Just a few minutes in the case will give you enough juice for the rest of an afternoon, I just tend to charge the case once a week at the moment.
Pairing is easy, just opened the case near my phone and done, they're now paired to my mac and iPad as well. Sometimes they'll connect to the wrong device if it's in range but it takes a second in the bluetooth menu to swap it over.
The hands free kit is good, no complaints when I've been walking down the street and had to use them, people have been able to hear me cleary. I disabled Siri though and double tap the pod to Play/Pause.
As for losing them, yes that's a worry but I seem to be aware of where they are at all times. I think because you're aware they're expensive you tend to treat them more carefully, I've broken and lost many pairs of cheap headphones but I'm almost religious about where I put these, same pocket of my bag each time etc. It's like sunglasses, I had many pairs of cheap sunnies lost/damaged, treated myself to a pair of Oakleys and they're still like new 5 years later as I'm aware of the cost of them.
Sorry for the long response, I quite like them 🙂
Edit: Once I'd decided to buy them it took ages to find a pair and they were gone 10 mins after I bought them, you have to be patient.

Saw a few people with them in Cupertino the other week, they do look a bit odd...
