No wonder it fell off the plane, being that rusty.

Surely it’s a refuelling nozzle from the nose of a spitfire

The top portion ( at the bottom of the photo) has some similarities to the landing leg of a Supermarine spitfire (see link), but the outer casing is missing so difficult to know.

Can't concentrate on the gangle pin due to the state of the gaps between those slabs

Looks very much like an undercarriage leg to me, not enormous so probably a fighter from WWII? As mentioned above, looks very similar to that fitted to a Spitfire.

Superb detective work. 👌🏻

Spitfire landing gear, how interesting, the brass and rubber bits are in great nick. The grease that packed the lower section has turned to a brittle odourless material under the sea over that time

There's a few other less obviously interesting bits as well, aluminium so likely air based rather than sea. Also a 5inch shell that looks to have been hit and exploded as the percussion cap is in one piece.

I'm sorry the slabs upset you I'm in the process of sorting it, everything takes time.

Nimrod rod.

Better give it back then, without it, it's just a Nim

Particularly when someone dumps some historical and interesting aero tat in the way. 😉

i didn't notice the panel connection tabs hiding in the shadows

theres little doubt about it.

it might even be a mk1 or mk2a

as later marks don't seem to have the bolts below the locking loop.

Fascinating, so kind of you to post the links. Thank you. It's really heavy, wonder if it's worth owt? 🤔

got this slighty ropier bit of ali too but it does have markings.

Also got some tiles and amphora handles that are from a long time prior.

Do you need to report yet bits of a downed aircraft as a probable grave as well?
