Does anyone use an air purifier to help deal with central heating aggregated allergies or are they snake oil? Other than being outside or not having the heating on ... any other tips to reduce symptoms?

Thats what I thought

What allergies are exacerbated by central heating? all it does is heat the air. It puts no allergens into the environment

Central heating can make the air very dry - thats easily dealt with with a saucer of water on your radiator

I suspect you are being sold a pup about "central heating aggregated allergies " I'd love to know who diagnosed this

They are sometimes used in modern houses as there is often very little air-flow thus you can get a lot of condensation. Our neighbours have one fitted in the upstairs to exchange air with the loft space.

I guess it's something to do with hot radiators circulating air and taking dust and stuff with it. Can't be that much though, shirley?

Also going to guess that aggregated should be aggravated.

Ha, tough crowd. Yes, aggravated not aggregated.

The first uses of heating systems kick up dust and other particles that trigger allergy and asthma symptoms.

Our house is old, dusty, possibly a little damp and full of pets. I’d assumed that in warmer periods all of these allergens just stay where they are and have little impact on me but when we use the central heating they get circulated? It only lasts for a few weeks and then I seem to get acclimatised to it. I guess I’ll just keep taking the pills.

What Paton said. Been looking into them myself. Circa £10k for a fully designed fitted system. Could probably do it for much less if you wanted to do it yourself and do guesswork on location and duct routing.

As for allergies from CH? I suffer with headaches if I don't get enough fresh air so we often have the windows open at least upstairs. Probably costs a fortune I heat but it's a form of investment to not get bad heads.

First thing to do is get a radiator brush to clean the the accumulated dust from between/behind the fins.
You'll be surprised how much crud accumulates.
After that, as TJ says - saucer or small dish of water on/just above the rad.

Bubs I know exactly how you're suffering. I'm the same due to chronic rhinitis. Hot stuffy places set it off, add to that dust or animals. Have to leave the room when my wife uses a hair drier. Places with hot air heating are the worst.

My only non drug solution has been good ventilation and keeping the heat down, which is easy in my own home, but not in other homes and buildings. I sometimes have to resort to just sitting out in the cold or a walk to clear the irritation.
