I'd expect so much more from the Guardian, but alas no. Seems they've also chugged the Kool-aid.
Do they not have editors to filter out this bilge?
The joint statement from Johnson and Von der Leyen came hours after Britain said in the event of a deal it would drop key clauses from the internal market bill that would breach international law
Although to be fair to the Grauniad, it appears that it was the Euros that called it am olive branch....

It's somewhere between blackmail, bribery and u-turn.

Really? Reeeaaallly?
Half the time it's just a right-on buzzfeed, with pretty much the same balance of clickbait, buzzword bingo and accurate reporting.

or planned all along... <tinfoilhat>
Looks like BloJo has probably turned tail and run on this one. He’s now agreed to take the clauses out with just an NI border agreement (which he probably already had from Mrs May’s deal).
Things have got back to a position that is somewhat worse than it would have been had those clauses never have been in the Bill at all. But it has improved things over the short term.
Today’s “reverse turn” was Boris Johnson’s generous offer not to break international law. The EU is not likely to see this as much of a concession. It might ask sarcastically if there are any other international treaties that the UK would generously offer not to break. And it is bound to observe that the clauses of the Internal Market Bil that break international law would come into effect only if there were no trade deal.
I think the independent hits the nail rather better
Boris Johnson’s clumsy choreography

Boris being enough of a narcissist to sell us all up the river just so he can be our saviour? Never.
I watch the news on German and French channels everyday and find myself doing double take on the French and German news that makes it into the Guardian. I sometimes dig through the local press to find where the hell it came from. Clickbait is one way to describe it, anti-european propaganda is what I call it, anything to poke fun at those Europeans. It's not far removed from Boris' bendy bananas and EU sized condoms.
Although to be fair to the Grauniad, it appears that it was the Euros that called it am olive branch….
so the reporting was correct then...
The whole thing is a load of politics / brinkmanship / playing to the gallery etc - I don't think anyone is under the impression it's anything else (other than maybe a few Express readers).

If you think that about the Guardian, the Daily Mail will blow your mind 🤣🤣
Anyone with half a brain cell knows each thing like this is yet another one in the eye for the gammony fantasists. And that is just lovely.
The bullshit and bluster of the English exceptionalism that led to this needs a proper humiliating spanking so it has less chance of resurfacing.

Never really going to happen.
I think part of it is being an Island, we can be left behind by Europe with living standards drifting further apart etc and not really notice as we're stuck on our island etc.
If you live in France and see Germans driving over all the time is brand new top of range BMWs / Mercs (simplistic example) it's harder to ignore the fact that they're doing better than you etc.
A lot of the Brexiteers don't have passports, don't travel and don't care, they just want to be told 'we're the best' / 'two world wars one world cup' etc and are happy believing it all as they queue for bread at one of Gove's ration centres....
Yeah I wish as soon as BoJo announced the internal markets bill the EU had just ended trade negotiations on the basis they couldn't trust the UK government to stick to the terms of anything negotiated anyway. Unfortunately the EU needs the UK trading relationship to continue as smoothly as possible as well so they couldn't risk doing that I guess.
Yep, got to say that I'm surprised how long the EU has put up with our "negotiating" shit.
I would have told us to get tae **** months ago.
But I guess they're playing the " ensure those Brexit ****ers have no opportunity to lay the blame at our door" game. Which I respect.
( Though of course, ' we' will anyway)

I guess the difference is they are professionals doing a professional job, and just ignoring the childish posturing from the UK side. Whereas, the UK team is just a bunch of idiots playing at the game of politics so they can have some good after dinner stories. I doubt Bojo, Gove etc give a shit what happens as long as they think they can just blame the EU for it all.
