We had a small 3m x 3m utility built at the back end of last year, but it's just occurred to me the house outline will now be out of date on Land Registry.
Is it down to us to inform them and send relevant documents?
Is this a thing ? And why does it matter ?
It never got done when we had our extension and that was 2012, well not be us at least. Can't imagine the builder did either.

If it's not a thing I'll not worry, but I know buyers and solicitors like everything spot on nowadays during a sale.

Try asking the land registry how long it will take them to alter the deeds - answer they can't give you a time frame - I know this because a toss pot of a buyers solicitor wants to change the ones of my deceased mates house - just because of a fence repair clause in it 🫣
I won't effect the land registry as they only care about the outline. I believe when you buy a house you actually buy the plot of land and whatever happens to be on it is thrown in.
The base map they use does show the houses, etc. This map is updated and it must happen automatically, not sure how. Maybe from council records, maybe google's little plane. Our building work is shown and I never told them.
If you change the boundary line, it's your responsibility to notify the Land Registry.
As for the building outline, it's not mandatory AFAIK but would be good practice to notify them as it may avoid potential for future confusion when selling.
There are two small areas at the bottom of the garden which we'll apply for vacant possession of in a year or so - so could update floorplan then. The physical boundary is squared off, but on deeds the red boundary outline cuts off with a weird triangular shape (it's land-locked and pretty useless to anyone). Our solicitor said the triangle belonged to no-one. We had to get previous owners to sign that they'd used it for their time of ownership with no issues or rent.

We added a workshop 13 years ago, in our garden. and it has somehow appeared on LR base maps (prob via OS).
We never dealt with them and as it was self build, I was the builder....

it might be wide to fence that corner out to align with the plans, otherwise there's risk of liability/cost when it falls down due to ash dyeback.. it'll definitely die within the next decade, and I guess if you're landlocked it won't be cheap to remedy
