Won this bottle of Grosvenor gin at a summer fete and haven't been brave enough to try it yet. Not a brand I recognise and I'm always a bit dubious of unknown liquor, in case it's dodgy. Has anyone tried it? Any good or should I save it for chain cleaning?

Fancy gin is a scam, same as fancy vodka, so get stuck in.

It will be fine - it is white grain spirit with some botanicals in, and juniper.

It is nor going to jump out and tear your throat out

You're going to add ice, lemon and tonic, right? So you probably won't taste the difference between that and the fancy stuff.

The good thing is that it is not Rhubarb and peach flavour ( or whatever is this weeks fashion flavour)

Gin doesn't age like whiskey or Brandy,  and doesn't need 50 levels of purification like vodka .  It's a very simple spirit

I think it was more the issue that I've never seen it for sale anywhere, so started to think it could have an outside chance of being iffy. A bit of googling suggests it's in the catering suppliers category, so I guess it will be fine.

Try it. If it's bad, go find some sloes and bung them in with some sugar. Enjoy at Christmas.

Like that idea! Pity it didn't cross my mind a couple of months ago.
