Hello All
I have a graphic I have done (bike decals) on Affinity Designer. The image has a transparent background. I need to export it as an EPS file to give to the printers. Everything looks fine and the export runs smoothly. However, when I open the EPS file on its own the background is white? No matter which way I do it when I reopen the EPS file the background no longer shows up transparent.
Has anyone any idea what I might be doing wrong? Note I am by no means a professional in this field.
Is there another vector format file I could try that is widely accepted by printers?
Don't know anything about affinity, I'd imagine it should export a transparent eps, it is possible, could just be the program you are using to view the eps and it can't display/see the transparency? (you're bringing back memories of quark 4 and clipping paths here! đŸ˜† )
But anyway, just send the printer a pdf That'll keep the vector data.
Thanks Seosamh77. I thought that might be the case that the viewer was the issue.
I tried a pdf, same issue.
I do seem to have managed it with PNG however....... will the printer kill me?
aye, png is raster not vector, it's also won't do cmyk. So no use.
What are you viewing the pdf/eps in?
Ok thanks. Sent the printers a PDF and asked them to check for background transparency. It's a minefield.
a vector graphic doesn't need a transparent background as it will, by default, have no background. However the default background colour for a lot of progs & PDF viewers etc is white so a graphic will look the same whether it has no background, a transparent background or indeed a solid white one. It's probably fine, but best if someone who knows what they're doing can check it!!

I'd guess it'll be fine. Like I say it's probably just what ever program you are using to view the exported file that's showing it up as a white background. The printers will let you know.
If it's just standard printing, it'll not print white anyhow. There's no white in CMYK. đŸ˜†
