Small patch but bugs me. To touch it up, do I:

1. Gently rub down with wet and dry
2. Buy a 3 pack Halfords touch up kit
3. Apply primer
4. Apply paint
5. Lacquer

Happy with a reasonable job. Mostly want to avoid the paint peeling where it's been cracked.

Or is it trickier than above?

That doesn't look like 'touch up' to me mate i'm afraid.

Agreed, not a touch up situation. Needs sanding back around the damage (which will be a lot wider than you think) then filler/primer/paint as required. A spot repair may be possible but it’s easier to take bumper off and do the whole lot rather than masking on the car.

I would take that to a local body shop to get a price. You might be surprised it's not as much as you'd think

I say have a go

I had similar damage after some idiot* reversed into a big rock and I managed a pretty good repair with 3 rattle cans.

At this time of year though you will probably need a garage to work in. I did my repair on a nice warm dry day.

Have you got a pic of the end result?

You could do it DIY as above and get a reasonable finish, I did a wing mirror with just primer rattle can of colour and rattlecan clearcoat. it turned out ok but the car

But OPs paint looks like a standard non metallic red, so it might be cheaper than you think to have someone spray it properly.Worth getting a quote?

3rd pic was the finished result. Its not perfect, but its a bumper so pretty inconspicuous. I wouldn't try rattle canning the middle of a door or bonnet.

A local chipsaway type place will take care of that easily and far better than a DIY attempt.

It is a non-standard colour. The main damage is about the size of a 50p coin, and it's kinda tucked away so I'd be relaxed about a 'reasonable DIY' job ... as much concerned that the paint will continue to flake off.

Will have a check for quotes too.

Check a local body shop. We just picked up a cheap used Aygo as a run about, and it had some deep scratches on one side of the bumper and damage to the wing's paint (metallic blue). Dealer agreed to have it corrected - the job done was perfect, and being a cheap 11 year old run about, I guess he won't have been charged much to sort it.
