[Closed] Advice on Suits - Where to buy one that fits a cycling physique?

I'm getting married in June and Mrs David tells me it would be 'nice' if I wore a suit.

I've managed to get to nearly 30 without owning/buying a suit so my first question is where is a good place to buy a suit upto £250?

My second question (which is why I'm asking here) where is a good place to buy a suit for someone with a bodyshape molded by cycling?

I'm 5'6", 140 lbs, 28 inch waist, but due to cycling it would appear I have abnormally large thighs for someone of my size, therefore I didn't fit into the M&S suit I tried. I can obviously buy a suit and get it adjusted but I thought I'd ask if anyone here could recommend a brand/shop that is 'larger in the leg'.

I hate shopping so any advice that narrows down the number of shops I have to go to will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

DAVE

Slaters menswear did me a good interview suit, few years ago.
Very competitive price, too, good make stocked (think it was a Ted Baker IIRC).

Failing that, High & Mighty (though they may not be cheap).

Your waist to chest measurement ratio is key for off the peg suits.

Most come with a 6" drop between the 2.

Paul Smith makes suit for a lot of the Team GB lot, as he's a fanatical cyclist. Including Chris Hoy who's thighs are a little on the large side

Won't be cheap, mind. But it'll be nice. it is you wedding

You must go somewhere with a big range – Slaters are good as are Debenhams and next for carrying lots of styles / sizes and letting you buy whatever trousers / jacket fit rather that the specific trousers and jacket combo, trousers 6” shorter in the waist than Jacket measurement round the middle, that TSY referred to.

T M Levin are some of the best high street for reasonable price.
I have big legs and can fit in these.
My recommendation is Copperfields in London.

You are prob looking £350 or so with two pairs of trousers but lovely suits and altered to fit on the premises for free.
Try a few high street places before going there and decide..
Indeed if you want to get a good selection go to the city as all the shops are in the business district within a mile square..

off the peg Paul Smith suits are not made for cyclists though. they're made for 6' bean-poles.

I had to buy trousers with a larger waist than I have so that the 'seat' would fit, then they took the waist in.

Slaters Menswear +1. They do the necessary alterations for you as part of the sale - makes a huge difference.

Slaters +1. They actually know what they're talking about. Any other shop usually an 18-25 year old spiv.

I sound so old.

Marks & Spencers. Mix 'n match jackets and trousers, get bigger trousers if necessary and wear a belt or get the waist taken in for a tenner at local alteration place.

If you're in the NW, Boundary Mill Store at the end of the M65, suits for silly prices. I got two nice ones half price. The current fashion in men's trousers is tight around the bum with no pleats so you really need to try before you buy.

My silly large thighs are currently nestled in the work of Roderick Charles. Recommended, both for fit and value.

I ended up getting a French Connection suit from Moss Bros (i think). I was lucky in that the sales woman really knew her stuff & pointed me in the right direction immediately.

Go where the service is best and where they don't let you buy unsupervised. Standard fault is blokes buying a suit too tight, especially across the shoulders.

Don't be cheap, with the suit, the shirt, the tie and especially the shoes. Nothing looks worse at a wedding than a bloke who obviously doesn't wear suits in something that looks cheap - especially if he is the groom and the bride has made a real effort.

How big are all your 'silly large thighs' that requires you to need specialist clothing?
