there seems to be a wide range of SC50 T20 cartridges for sale between £20 and £90, whats the difference and are they cross compatible?
I took a fancy Triton shower out of a rental house because the cartridge had gone and it would cost over £100 for the real thing. Spent £18 for one on eBay fitted it in our own house and it's been giving faultless service for the last 3 years.
Amazon This one seems to have good reviews.
I have done a few Aqualisa cartridges recently and at £100 each I wish there was a generic to try. Check any o rings in the shower valve that are not part of the cartridge assembly but bear in mind some are really tricky to remove without damaging them.
Thanks lads, I'll bung a cheap one in and see how it goes.
What's the issue exactly?
We got into an interesting argument with a facilities contractor when I worked in Vancouver, they had a cushy number replacing shower cartridges in a 23 storey high block of flats, their theory was that failing shower cartridges were allowing cross connections between hot and cold supplies resulting in toilets flushing hot!
Turned out the cartridges in question were not designed to prevent cross connection and there were non-return valves just upstream which had failed due to worn o-rings. Possibly 25p fix per valve.
Contractor had already charged client too much for replacement cartridges so naturally vigorously refuted our conclusion, probably still replacing the cartridges to this day...
Its one of those concealed showers. Started cutting out if you turned the water flow too high, but i'm lazy so I learned to live with that. Then just no hot whatsoever and its too bloody cold up here for that. Still plenty hot to all other outlets. I'm hoping a new cartridge will make all my problems go away 🙂
