All,
My sister needs to get her lead roof fixed on her bay window as it’s moving away from the flashing and there gap in the cover. So rather than asking for my advice, she has asked me to post something on "that mountain bike forum you frequent".
Anyway her issue is that so far she's had the following quotes:
1. Take off all the lead (!) and reposition it and could put a fibre-glass sealant on it – around £500
2. Take off the flashing only and beat it to reattach and cover the gap and then put on fibre-glass sealant – around £500
Her concern following some research is that it sounds like the fibre-glass sealant may not be the answer as it will expand and contract at a different rate to the lead causing cracks. She's not sure if that’s the case or not and hence wants some advice.
Any thoughts?
This guy is a good friend of mine, he had an historic building restoration company doing roofs/leadwork/stone carving on cathedrals/churches etc. Retired but got bored and set up with his son and a few select guys. They are in Stalybridge.
Their roof/leadwork is amazing - they wouldn't use fibreglass. Some bay windows on their FB
