We came back from holiday to the cc statement which listed 11/12 itunes purchases - all for 7-8 quid a pop.
None of them are from us. CC do not have the info (understandably) as to what the items were. itunes won't tell us!! They are just listed as transaction numbers. Paypal won't (possibly can't) tell us what the items were and simply say all trnasctions were 'authorised'.
No idea what to do next! Obvioulsy it would help to know what these purchases related to but no one will tell us.
Is there a way to get these itmes refunded? Who is responsible or is it just tough luck?
We have unlinked the cc from Paypal and will no doubt shut the PP account if they just brush us off but is there anything that can be done?
Thanks
So the payments were made through Paypal, and Paypal were paid via your credit card? I'd change my Paypal password and set up 2 factor authorisation for a start. If you're certain you didn't authorise them, I'd be looking at Paypal's T&Cs to find out how to challenge the payment. If that fails you might then have grounds for a CC refund.
Will cc refund small amounts though? Thought protection kicked in at 100 quid?
Can't you look at your iTunes account and see what your recent purchases are listed as?
That's the problem Eddie, nothing listed!! So its come off our cc, linkedin to PP, in turn linked to itunes and NOBODY knows what the hell has been purchased! Can't work out how anybody has gained?
I'm not familiar with iTunes these days, but if there's nothing in your purchase history then one possibility is your PayPal account had been hacked and three payments are going to bandit accounts which have been given itunes-like names.
Or perhaps someone is using your PayPal account on their own iTunes account.
Either way I imagine makes it difficult to prove that it wasn't you making purchases.
Do you even have your PayPal linked to your iTunes?
If it’s itunes you get a full receipt via email. Have you got some new pay for apps? That would come up as iTunes
Your CC company won't deal with this, it's a paypal problem.
Contact PP and tell them it's fraud. They'll have information about the device etc and will be able to tell it wasn't yours. However, PP are a bloody nightmare to deal with and you'll have to press them hard to do something.
Also, change PP password, get 2 factor auth set up and delete your cc details from it until it's sorted.
Do you even have your PayPal linked to your iTunes?
Is that even possible? My understanding is that iTunes can only be linked directly to an actual bank account via your Apple account, so you can pay directly from an iPhone or Watch.
Could these PP payments be for iTunes gift cards? That would make more sense to me, they can be transferred/given to anyone with an Apple/iTunes account then.
A very similar thing was noticed for a service user I am working with at the moment; numerous amounts of £7.99/£8.99/etc taken in a day, over £120 on some days ... email Apple to query these charges first was what we were told before things can be reported as theft.
