just knocked the kitchen into the front room to creat a bigger 'kitchen diner' and looking at flooring options. Gone down the laminate route, solid wood ok but depth could be an issue with doors etc, anyone used rubber flooring?. If so, is it worm?, easy to lay etc. or does anyone have any other recommendations.
cheers

Agreed, it's a bit of a minefield. The best thing we ever did in our utility room was to splash out on the sealed vinyl flooring that you see in hospitals where the edges are curved up and the joints are welded. It's fantastically practical and easy to keep clean because dirt can't hide in any corners. If you do go down this route make sure the fitter is experienced, has the right colour edge beads and the right colour weld. We like the floor so much we are going to have it in our much bigger kitchen despite the high cost.

Next best after that is rubber flooring tiles that we got from the Rubber Flooring Co in Burnley and laid ourselves in the downstairs bog but the edges have to be sealed with silicon and never look as good as the hospital stuff.

If you do lay vinyl or rubber be sure to get the PVA based sealer kit, this protects the soft surface and stops it getting scratched and dirty.

Neither flooring is warm under a bare foot though, underfloor heating would make it more pleasant if you had sufficient depth to add insulation under the elements.

OMG you've got to be kidding? Coved vinyl flooring in a house? Even worse, in a living room area!!

Just cut the doors down, very simple with an electric plane. Don't go for plastic, get real wood floating engineered boards which look wonderful, are good value and not cold.
