I went to the Spar tonight for bread and milk. There were five people in front of me in the queue. All of them bought a scratchcard of some description.

Throw off your shackles and avoid the medium shoving the ads in your face 😉

What ads? (admittedly that's a better line when you don't have a P next to your name 😉 )

I know that at least some of the ad boxes are served up by Google's network so are to an extent behaviourally linked so you see relevant content relevant to browsing history.

Ad revenue pays a contribution towards running the site (I used to work in ad sales for another non-bike site a few years back) - these things are expensive to run and operate.

As has been said, if you'd prefer not to see the ads, buy a Premium subscription.

I was more talking about the later in the evening tv adds. I tend to be completely oblivious to the web based stuff. Or am I?
Edit: I've never seen an add for any of the ones I've mentioned on stw.

I poked around in my google settings once and switched off the function to tailor ads to what google believes to be your interest based on search history. It doesn't switch off the ads just the attempt to target the ads to your behaviour. The result? Every page of STW framed with adverts for incontinence pants. Switched it back on.

That's a good question. I'm afraid I don't know the answer.
