Bah, humbug, the countdown has begun.

Being made better by the fact that MrsMC has gone to town with advent calendars this year, and I have a bottle of (slightly suspect, labelled in English and French) beer each day. I suspect it is also my Christmas present as well

MCJnr has a Doritos calendar with a bag of, well, Doritos a day, and LittleMissMC has some make up to open each day.

I may have missed my chance to impress with the bog standard Maltesers calendar I got her in return 😳

My wife got a wooden Christmas tree shaped thing with 24 little doors in it, that she has put cheap bracelet charms in for my youngest. My eldest has a 'build your own radio' one from Haynes where each door conceals a component of an FM radio. She's chuffed to bits 🙂

One of these: https://www.ahlens.se/Inredning/kontor-papper/kalendrar-705121/hedlunds-radio-och-tv-julkalendern-2020-02094324/

it goes with the daily TV program that SVT puts on and is kind of a tradition to have.

I bought my missus a Hotel Chocolat one, which earned me some brownie points as she wasn't expecting one 🙂 I also ordered a Holland and Barret tea one although that is in the hands of Hermes, so expect it for next year...

The lad has a Lego one, the littlest lady has a paper one.

I missed out on the Tiny Rebel advent beer one as they sold out within a few hours of announcement 🙁

In-laws bought our three year old a super-duper-deluxe Lindt one with a wee foil wrapped Lindt chocolate figure every day! Pretty sure I'm going to have to go 'Bad Santa' on it and substitute some Lindt chocolates for wee toys, or sprouts, or rocks or something.

Got my wife a Hotel Chocolat liquor truffle calendar because I've learned that deep down she's very easily pleased 🙂

52 Year old man and I’ve been given a pork scratching and beers advent calendar.  Since I rarely have a beer at home during the winter and never eat pork scratchings I’m going to have a guess this was for her dad but she hasn’t been able to visit and deliver it.  So now it’s my Christmas present.

Home made refillable one. Not really for any green agenda, more because most retail options are either rubbish choccies or bonkers expensive. Just buy a nice selection of decent chocolate morsels and apply a bit of effort which brings its own reward.

going in on day 1 of the brewdog box tonight.
did consider holding off and trying a beer every hour on christmas day but that would quickly get messy.

My lad has a wooden one that is filled with little bits and bobs, and we also bought him this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Revell-Crawler-Advent-Calendar-Model/dp/B083WRNYQQ

It was a darn sight cheaper than that though!!

The company I work for ordered a job lot of Hotel Chocolat ones for us, I was a bit underwhelmed  though as thought there'd be a proper filled chocolate each but today was just a small solid chocolate and I guess the rest are to 🙁

I too am a 40 something man and am very pleased with my Percy Pig calendar.
The only disappointment is that my wife had to buy it rather than it coming from my parents. It's reassuring that I am not the only slightly older gent who feels this way.

My cats have one, it's full of cat treats. And there's a chocolate one that I suspect will be monopolised by my daughter and wife.

Might order one for myself off Amazon in a minute 🙂

Last year, here in our local shop in the Black Forest, we had an epic Bacon Advent Calendar with a picture of Reinhold Messner on the front. Speckword, I think it was called. Big bits of air-cured bacon too.... it went down a treat with the Lager Advent Calander nom nom nom.

Cue "Wurst Calender" comments etc etc

Nowt this year yet....

Home made refillable one.

Mother in law used to do these for us, but sadly too old and confused the last couple of years.

I really miss the excitement of wondering if the other sock of the pair will turn up later in the month in my calendar or in someone else's 😢

Wera do an advent calendar.

Usefulness varies from year to year and its not something you would get every year as you would have lot of duplicates, but its all very well done with the quality you would expect

I use tools from the 2017 one all the time.

going in on day 1 of the brewdog box tonight.

Me too. Pulled it out this morning and put it in the fridge to enjoy later. Don't normally partake in Advent calendar action. Leave it to the wife and kids, but the wife got me the Brewdog one so as not to feel left out.

I have a Baileys one.

Disappointingly there are only 12 bottles/windows. Luckily I have a litre bottle in the cupboard. Disappointingly I gave up drinking in October. Luckily it's December and I can start again.

Wife bought me a Flavourly beer one. Opened in the morning and put in the fridge for drinking that evening.
I couldn't find anything for her that wasn't a bit naff or stupid expensive, so I made a box with changeable number that I refil each night with some kind of chocolate treat.
We might both have put on quite a few pounds by Christmas.
Children have Lego ones - I'm very jealous.

Well, there you go. I suppose I'm a either a miserable get, or unaffected by the creeping infantilisation of society.

Or quite possibly both.

I've got the Wera one. Had a quick look through some previous ones, they do seem to be usefully different each year if you did get them each time.

We have a refillable one for our child, had a brief but blazing row this morning becuase I refused to allow my wife to put chocolate in every day. Did mean I've had to amazon prime some useful trinkets to go in every other day instead.. which in retrospect I should have thought of sooner

Every year, for some forgotten reason, I get sent a Taylors Port advent calendar, with port related questions behind each door. Every year it goes in the bin shortly after being delivered.

Little one more or less immediately grasped the concept of chocolate behind each door, so he's going to be very disappointed tomorrow when he discovers I smuggled the Lindt chocolate teddy out and substituted it with a balloon I found in the kitchen drawer.

Just need to find a few other random childproof trinkets and I'll be feasting on Lindt chocolate (every other day at least...).
