I had to check I was logged in but I'm now getting a series of ads down the RHS of the forum when I'm looking at Posts (but not the index). I can't find that setting tro switch them off either. How do I switch these off?
Deals of the Day?
Yeah I was wondering what that's about.
That's the thing.
Same
Had them at the bottom of the page but now gone.....
Seems to be sorted.
You know what to do...
Shoes, Wee, STW Towers.
I didn't see what you're talking about and don't know whether it was intentional or an accident, but it's probably worth mentioning again:
[P] Users don't get third party advertising content. We're not exempt from other forms of promoted content.

It was ads for Evans, CRC etc, not for STW stuff.
good to see the quoting has been fixed ahead of the new classified forum
just as a note on this i viewed the front page not logged in and couldnt close it due to a certificate error with an advert

Indeed it was.
It was ads for Evans, CRC etc, not for STW stuff.
But it is formatted in a way that makes it look very much part of STW rather than a 3rd party
Right. Like I said, if there's some sort of partnership deal or sponsorship going on, the [P] doesn't exempt us from that sort of thing.
There was something similar a little while ago with Specialized, the background wallpaper was branded for a few days and several people reacted as though STW had eaten their first-born. That sort of thing is going to happen from time to time, AIUI it's a much better business model than third-party advertising.
(... as far as I know, anyway. I'm not on the payroll.)
P = No Ads, unless we feel like splattering the forum with ads.. obvz. Then in that case they are ads but not ads in the same way ads are broadcast, but ads they are.. yip, ads.
May as well broadcast what the P actually delivers, rather than reacting to the same old boring questions.
IANOTP
If you’re a [P] user, you won’t get any adverts at all when logged in.
Promoted content != adverts.
That is of course a distinction without a difference.
Heaven forfend that a bike magazine should mention bikes.
Anyway, I'm just passing on what my understanding is (and I could be wrong). Don't shoot the messenger.
Is it ok to point out the message being delivered by the messenger is rediculous, without actually shooting the messenger 😂
Don't make me hurt you.
I'm happy to hear your understanding. Can you explain your understanding of the difference between a graphic and text advertising a product for sale, and a graphic and text advertising a product for sale? Is there any way for a mere user of the site to distinguish between them, or is this something that you need mod privileges to discern?
Don’t make me hurt you.
OK. Back to shooting then 👍 😆
[edit] hey, I can quote without garbled garbage. Yay !!
Cougar - it was pictures of items available for sale at various retailers with prices and clickable links. No added value content from STW. Those are ads.
I was also wanting to check that I hadn't unchecked something that meant I was now being fed ads but I can't find the box that used to do that either.
Anyways, they've gone (for now.......)

Is a messenger without a message, or a mandate, still a messenger?
But it is formatted in a way that makes it look very much part of STW rather than a 3rd party
Not in the slightest it stood our quite clear as an advert. Even on my iPad Pro.

That was removed as it’s default now.

Right. Fair enough then, presumably it was a mistake. As I said, I didn't see it. (I wasn't specifically talking about this specific instance anyway, but generally.)

👍

Same heading text as content, same body text as content. Yes, I can tell it's an advert but it's been clearly designed to sit with the content. In fact it looks quite a bit like the thing telling us to buy a magazine which we've been told many times isn't an advert 🙂
That'll be some of that sponsored discontent.
