I'm a bit obsessed with all the ads that pop up on my FB page featuring hipsters in 'traditional' clothing.
Now I know it's because I look at stuff, and connections get made.
But wow, is there nothing advertised on FB that isn't Artisan being worn by what I think is the same bearded geezer
'Chore coats' today. Mostly being worn by blokes on laptops?

But to my point. Isn't life great when this is all you have to worry about. Well that and the sign for the private school over the road that I think is a bit too big. But I'll save that story for another day.

Any item of kit. Just advertise a bloke in a leather apron making it and whack on the ££££'s.
Boots made to look like you've had them donkeys years.
Chore coats not to paint and decorate in, but to sit at a laptop in.
Handmade genuine denim jeans.....with elastine.

Ordered some new glasses yesterday. Today I get ads for artisan organic glasses. 01 21 do one,

I love a chore coat. Particularly vintage French ones.
I use mine everywhere including sitting at my laptop.
No beard or drinking from a kilner jar though.

TURN OFF FB

I did at the turn of the year and the amount of time I’ve now got... to be on this social media instead of Facebook...is incredible !!

I just bought a Chore Coat!  It's great, slightly tidier than Denim Jacket and when in Brown Duck Cotton you're not Double Deniming.

My targeted ads are full hipster too as it happens!

I hide or report ads on my facebook - everytime. I get no targeted advertising anyway but doing that really mucks up FBs algorithms

So it's just a jacket, then? What's the markup for giving it a fancy name?

I heard they convened a special meeting at FB HQ to work out how to counter this devastating ruse. 🙂

I have chore coat. Didn't even know that's what it was called i just liked the look of it and seeing as I already have plenty of Carhartt stuff figured why not get that too. I do like how the hipster is now used to describe something even remotely trendy despite the whole hipster thing dying out a few years ago.

Side Topic, i mean you're always going to get ads of some sort its how FB make their money so why not get ones from stuff that you might be interested in? I would rather see ads from brands I like than an offering me a subscription to pens weekly or some female perfume.

Don't get me wrong, they're good jackets. Carhaart and Dickies have been around ages and are proper workwear. But now I can buy what is essentially a thick shirt, bung it on an aging hipster, show a bloke in a leather apron hammering one together and bung £200 on the price.

I bought some 12 year old NOS Clarks Comfort Cell to replace my old ones. Will I be accused of being a ‘hipster’? I do have a work apron...not leather tho.

Ads I am seeing are ‘mobility gripping aids’ ♿️

Other work gear is a Sheffield Wednesday fleece onesie with a hood. It’s ace. If the getup catches on I’ll be ‘hip’ but risking low stocks when time to replace. Other things keep me awake.

Thnks for the heads up O(ld)P 😉

(Now I have to look up ‘chore coat’ to see if have one/will be judged unfairly)

You say that like its something new. In my teens I wore dickies a lot and had two options by them from the builders place my stepdad used or the local skate shop, you can guess which shop was considerably cheaper.

Dpoing what I do kills ALL adds for a week or two - then they reappear then I report / hide them again and so on. Its nice to have those ad free periods

Anyway I am not interested in any ads

Spring is low-key the most fickle and hectic season of all. It’ll be cold and rainy, then cloudless and sunny, then suddenly so windy that you can’t open your car door, sometimes all in the same day. You’ve got a laundry list of tasks to finish—fix up the house, clean up the yard, take off the snow tires—and a whole bunch of places to go: parties, meetings, dates, vacations, hikes. It's a lot. To get through all of it, while still looking sharp and put together in the process, you'll need a chore coat. For generations, all manner of dudes looking to get stuff done, from construction workers to photographers to mechanics to outdoorsmen, have turned to these hardy, attractive, storage-space-happy jackets. They'll shield you from harsh weather, save you from carrying a bag around, and look good with everything from shorts and a tee to a button-down and tailored trousers. And right now, thanks to fashion's ongoing workwear fixation, there's never been a wider range of worthwhile versions available to you. To save you a vital bit of time, we went ahead and rounded up the 21 worthiest.

Googled Chore coat - still no idea.

Can you wear one under your dry wrap (or whatever it is called).  We don't really need to be the audience for this stuff, enough people are that they can make a tidy profit.

"‘Chore coats’ today. Mostly being worn by blokes on laptops?"

That made me happy.  I'm imagining the oudoor shops in Turrif being stocked up as we speak

not

IIRC Carhartt operates as two separate companies. There's the USA based workwear company and Carhartt-WIP is the EU based hipster brand.

Ditto Dickies Vs Dickies life.

i used to do that on Instagram but got bored of it so gave up on Instagram/FB and switched my social media use to here. I feel like the team here are less likely to subvert democracy, also I like bikes.

This is true, but I feel you and I have a different definition of "hipster." For me Carhartt is classic 00s hip hop / skate culture defo not hipster. I feel like people throw the word hipster around in a little derogatory way or use it as a catch all for anything they feel is trendy or in fashion.

A simple test, if it's 1992 and you're a hip-hop artist from the USA rust belt conveying your roots by wearing a $50 workwear jacket, then it's hip-hop fashion.

If you live in Camberwell and have a well-kept beard trying to look like you don't work on an Macbook Air from home by wearing a badly fitting £150 jacket then it's hipster.

Launched our second “chore coat”* this month yesterday. In moleskin this time. Last weeks was indigo Selvedge denim.
Next weeks is double black Selvedge denim.

Flying out.

*We call them “jackets”.

If you browse Facebook on a PC, then try installing FB Purity - that gets rid of all of the adverts.
I had to uninstall it though, as it worked too well, and there was nothing left to break up all of the posts whining about the NHS, the patriarchy, trans rights et al.

When I was younger I tried to figure out how to pose while in a empty bland featureless room, as if there was something happening. Never got it, destroyed my modelling career.

It's easier to ignore adverts you've got no interest in so less distraction.

This is more your proper vintage Chore coat. Well, original anyway. Not a Dickies new version.

Lovely heavy cotton and little stitch details.
I've actually got loads of them and am literally wearing one right now.
Got it from the big Pear Mill place in Stockport.

Nice kayak23.

Workwear or workwear-inspired stuff has been a staple thing for men for decades. The brands that are popular are usually so because they are well made and durable.

Some of the more expensive versions are made in Europe or even the UK to high standards so not cheap - like decent clothes used to be. People used to save up for work boots etc

Being anti-hipster just makes you sound like a grumpy Daily Mail reader tbh.

You shouldn't be so judgy 🤣😂🤣😂

I have a beard, contract for the Beeb and C4, and ride a fixie. I also.owm at least one item of Dickies clothing, and the obligatory down jacket (not North Face or Arcetectryx though). If I ate cereal in a cafe I'd be full hipster.

So basically the best way to get a cheap good quality chore coat is to be sent to an American prison in the early 20th century. Where you’ll get one for free so you can work on the railway, road or in a field.

I like that you have added a specific requirement that means you're not a "hipster" because god forbid anyone calls you that. 🙄

bloke in a leather apron hammering one together

An altogether different website I thought? (See also Lionel Blair thread.)

Anyway I've got a vintage french workwear navy stiff canvas top thing, but one of those you have to get over your head. Basically I've been strapped into straightjackets that are easier to get out of. But worth the effort for that half hour of stacking the log delivery.

Surely a true hipster wouldn’t be seen dead with a MacBook of any kind. The whole point of being a hipster is to not follow the mainstream. Apple are the most mainstream thing in the world. Way too modern. BBC Micro or ZX81 would be more like it.

Is now the wrong time to mention I have a couple of different pairs of Moc Toe work boots and about 8 pairs of Dickies 874 work trousers in various states of repair/colours?

I get my dickies from the US for about £15 a pair...
