Anyone else think they've gone downhill a bit recently?
Quote for the van a few months ago was beaten by over £200 by Brentacre, and I've just been quoted £1000 for my new (to me) car, whereas Admiral have come out as £450ish for a better policy. Don't even consider their home insurance as a cyclist!
Still the cheapest for me with the mods on my car
Only £20 cheaper than Brentacre for me, will try both again next year.
I'm not a fan, for two reasons.
Back circa 15 years ago when I was insuring my bike it came down to two policies, Adrian Flux and Carole Nash. Carole Nash was much cheaper, and gave me loads of options. On closer inspection it turned out that they were the exact same policy only AF had silently added all the extras without offering me the choice.
Shortly afterwards I started getting loads of spam. Long story short, it turned out that AF had sold on my details.
I’ve heard too many bad stories about them that I won’t go near them now, despite them being competitive on price in the past.
I was with Adrian flux for my car insurance.. no problems, never had to claim though.
Then one year they decided to take my premium from about £380 to £800 and were quite put out I wasn’t renewing with them!
i guess for modified stuff they might still be worth a look but I wouldn’t bother again.
I'm with AF but when I came to renew my insurance for my Golf R it had hiked up massively for some reason. So I went on the price comparison sites, got a much cheaper quote and then told them what I'd got and they beat it. Unless you ask or get shirty with them, they will take what they can so for me it worked.
Yep, not great but with a kit car that does ~10K miles a year they seem to come out cheapest every year. (after saying how ridiculous the quote they just sent through was and 30mins on the phone while they gradually match the previous years quote)
Had an interesting one this year - they display "what you paid last year - £451.56" and how much "we are saving you this year - £0.18" - but in reality the what I paid last year was 1.5x what I actually paid - had no explanation other than a sorry must be a "computer like thing issue - we can take £15 off for your inconvenience!" - couldn't understand why I refused! In the end got them down to about £300 which felt a little better!
Generally good experience here. Been with them for over 10 years now on my unmodified bog standard estate car.
Every year I compare the meerkats and AF always beat the cheapest quote by a couple of quid.
One claim for windscreen which was handled perfectly fine - quickly and with no problems at all.
Try Chris Knott.
For the last 4 or 5 years I’ve switched between Direct Line and CK.
Just switched back to CK as they’ve beaten me direct line renewal by £50 and haven’t hiked the excess up for having gained 3 points.
My renewal came through with an added £300 extra excess this year.
They appeared to change for the worse since the introduction of Flux Direct. Always had campervan insurance with them and found them to beat everyone...up till 2 years ago, where they were over £100 more at both renewals. Eventually they prove matched so no worries!
Move on last week when I looked for a quote on a new/2nd car...quite honestly felt patronised and rushed into details etc. They came in over £900 more than Admiral!!! Surely a mistake I said, to which the guy replied “have you ever driven a fast car before!?!?” He told me to check back in a couple of years!! Totally wasn’t interested in swapping my 25 years no claims over to a new vehicle. Lazy shytes.
You think they’re bad for renewals? Try claiming from them! I’d rather eat a dog shit sandwich than use Flux or their sister company bikesure again.
