Looking to get a set of Adjustable dumbbells to improve / recover some of the strength I e lost over the last two years, due to covid and back issues. Though to be fair I’ve probably lost damn near all strength / power now.
Anyone got a set they can recommend and do they work ? As they aren’t cheap, good for saving space, which is the main reason for the ask.
When I used to do weights at the gym (long long time ago) there was a separate dumbbell for each weight, I’ve never seen or used adjustable ones that cover say 5-25 kg in one dumbbell.
I got a cheap set off ebay a while back. Not the best but functional. Main issue is not all that dense/heavy. But loads cheaper than the "proper" sets.
I had a pair of the Powerhouse ones (cost around £300 back then) before I got a full set of hex dumbbells.
I found them useful, but you have to be exact with the dial - it was easy to get it a half notch out of line and you would pick up something heavier/lighter than expected (which I'm sure led to a couple of stupid injuries and pains over the years for me)
Definitely worth it if you don't have the space for a full set.
I bought pair of THESE 24kg during lockdown but I'm selling them as I'm back at the gym now.
They are very easy to use, have been reliable & very easy to store.

I prefer the more traditional thread locking dumbbells which last forever and you can always buy extra weight as you need. Over the years they have been very useful to get over injuries and I’m also do some home weight training.
This store is good and stocks lots of free weight options

I would also say it’s worth buying a set of exercise bands . Obviously they are space saving but that’s not their main advantage. They provide resistance that ramps up into full stretch which can easily be adapted to work the full range of a muscle. This is sometimes harder to do with free weights.
I have found them incredibly useful for shoulder work and injury rehab. They are colour coded for resistance levels. If you buy a set make sure you get a decent range there are plenty of offers for sets on line .
I've had a set of PowerBlocks for quite a few years:

They work well - take up minimal space (less than a shoe box size each) and go from 1-22kg per block. You can get extra plates which take the weight range up more - up to 45kg per unit.
It's a bit low tech - you have a pin a bit like on a gym machine weight stack that changes the weights, but it's secure and works well. Because of the shape of them, for some exercises you have to adapt your holds (eg. a goblet squat you grab the weight rails not the hand hold), but I've not found it to be an issue.
I'd buy them again.
I've got a pair of bodymax selectabell 32.5kg each. They're good.
Worth having the stand I think iless you have somewhere else within easy reach to put them.
We have the Powerblock mentioned above in 9-45kg(ish) flavour in our work gym, great bit of kit but not cheap for a home gym!
