Hi all,
Wanting to create a bent length of wood, so going to glue a number of thin strips along a curved form.
First off - any initial suggestions for laminating adhesives?
I understand I want a plastic resin glue (urea formaldehyde glue). Something that has a very strong hold, slow set time (to allow me to apply it and set up the former), and doesn't cost too much..
Unibond 800 is generally recommended, but is not available in the UK.
Others recommend Aerolite 306 ( http://www.axminster.co.uk/aerolite-306-glue-pack?gclid=Cj0KEQiAwaqkBRDHx6rzxMqAobgBEiQAxJazJxQxmbKxW__rXqcFFdCUhVF3NfncD4d8eDIkCsGCH_EaAsd38P8HAQ)
But I also read that adhesives with water in them are more prone to creep over time (and you mix water into Aerolite 306)?
Any thoughts?
And while we're on the topic - thoughts on best woods, which won't cost the earth?
Ta,
Duane.
Oh and I'm guessing contact adhesive (evostick etc) will set too quickly for me to set up etc..
Cascamite would be my first choice

Wood will depend on what you are making in terms of finish, strength and bend radius. You can get reasonable results laminating up thinner sheets of plywood.
Great, thanks - I had seen that name around but didn't look into it - it's also a third of the price of Aerolite!
I have some thin ply wood at home (3mm ish) - I wonder how the edges will look if nicely sanded etc.. Will be stained a dark brown too which should help.
