Fantastic singing voice but I wish she wouldn't speak!
Ditto!
I wish she wouldn't appear before my eyes either.
Nice that she hasn't changed. Glorious voice and down to earth with it.
Excellent.
You cant deny that singing voice, outstanding.
Comes across as genuine which is rare these days IMHO.
I wish she wouldn't speak!
Why not? What's wrong with her speaking voice? Or what she says?
Refreshing to hear someone so open, honest and unpretentious.
And I'm not into this sort of music normally, but bloody hell she's not playing games, eh?
Proper talent.
That was excellent and wish I'd been there. Girl can belt them out for sure.
As for her speaking voice, what?
Aye, proper talented she is. Grounded and down to earth? Probably - difficult to comment without actually being mates with her.
Why not? What's wrong with her speaking voice? Or what she says?
Nowt wrong with the voice or what she says.
It's HOW she says it. Just that accent from a female grates on me, I'd rather hear Scouse (& thats bad enough)
Some of her songs I could listen to all day. Just don't speak in between.
why don't you just put her cd on then, switch telly off, go do something less boring instead!
It's HOW she says it. Just that accent from a female grates on me
Ah right, you're hung up on where she's from. How open-minded of you.
Don't ever come to London then; you'll end up exploding with apoplexy....
why don't you just put her cd on then, switch telly off, go do something less boring instead!
Got it on me Pod so I might. How is it boring seeing as your'e taking an interest? Or are you being boring?
I must apologise, I blame the Bacardi & Jura Superstition!
I had to google Jura Superstition. I thought it was an eau de toilette.
Don't ever come to London then; you'll end up exploding with apoplexy...
What!! There's still peeple who tawk like that in Laaandon? I'll stay away then. (even though my son lives in Camden) 😉
I had to google Jura Superstition. I thought it was an eau de toilette.
Tastes like it to some of the uninitiated. 😈
How is it boring seeing as your'e taking an interest? Or are you being boring?
I was just singing the Why Don't You song in my head and it fell out of my fingers on to the keyboard. 😛
LOL @ Jamie! My lad's far too big to go up a chimney! Mind you, he is....never mind, forget I mentioned anything about going up chimneys.
and it's Caymden!!
Oh yeah sorry, Murray St, Caymden. (is that Caymden Taan?)
I used to go out with her. She was fat and talentless then, I see that she is even fatter and more talentless now. She was crap in bed too, always 'me, me, me.' I think it was because she is fat. Oh, and her voice grated on me too. She had a guaranteed record contract from the fame school, or 'factory' she went to and she never stopped bleating on about it. Some people have to actually work for their fame. Not my fat Adele, oh no. Sorry for the mini rant, but I think I am actually responsible for some of the shite songs on her last album. I broke her fat heart, she broke wind. A lot.
Prima Donna in the making - recently recovering from an operation on her throat, apparently now considering moving abroad as concerned about the effect pollution is having on her throat/voice - least of your worries love, the fags will be doing that for you! She famously quoted that she'd rather quit singing than smoking.
I know where you're coming from OP but I'd much rather listen to her genuine cockney accent than this weird speak teenagers and 20 something's are using "you me though, what you chatting about though, axe me though, like whatever though" etc etc.

Hmmm...
A couple of issues here.
She had a guaranteed record contract from the fame school, or 'factory' she went to and she never stopped bleating on about it.
It was the BRIT School. She didn't have a contract from the school, but there was substantial industry support throughout her time there.
She was fat and talentless then, I see that she is even fatter and more talentless now.
Overweight? Yes, she never participated in PE there. Talentless? Nope, her voice was and is amazing. Does she know it? - of course, she was a pain in the arse and very self-assured all the time she was at the BRIT.
How do I know? I taught at the BRIT.
Still, at least you're not bitter, eh Gary?
It's HOW she says it. Just that accent from a female grates on me, I'd rather hear Scouse (& thats bad enough)
I couldn't agree more on the accent thing, what accent does the OP have? Just to balance things out, like.
Hmmm...A couple of issues here.
Not really, I assumed gg made the whole thing up.
It's what I assume about almost everything everybody on this site posts, that way I get to retain my faith in humanity.
My guess is that she's slimmer than most of the STW population with a much less whiny voice too.
As for her talent, people in glass houses.....
Amazing voice - never heard her before, was fabulous to watch.
I don't mind her singing, just can't get passed the fact she looks like Matt Lucas in Drag.
Not a big fan of her music - I find her voice has a harshness to it when she goes for top notes that grates on my ear.
As for her size, I don't see how that has a bearing on her musical abilities - I can think of plenty of female singers with big amazing voices, and big bodies to match.

Brilliant - early days but best post of the year so far. It's just what I was thinking.
I reckon she would be a laugh to go on the piss with.
Yeah. She's like a crude 40-year-old divorcee trapped in the body of a 22-year-old.
I find it amazing that someone starts a thread about Adele, and up pops the boyfirend that broke her heart and one of her teachers from the Brit academy or whatever it is called. Small world. I only know 2 of her songs anyway, Mrs Griffin likes her though.
Never mind her accent, what about that laugh?! 😯
Anyway, I think she's great.
She's no Polly Jean.
i don't know who she is? or what she does? (should i?)
am i culturally worse off for this?
You must have come across her here - allegedly overweight, annoying and lacking in talent
does she work in I.T. and still wear jeans with funny pockets and logo's despite being 'middle aged'?
Why not? What's wrong with her speaking
voice? Or what she says?

Elfin + 1
does she work in I.T. and still wear jeans with funny pockets and logo's despite being 'middle aged'?
No, she's 22 and has a degree of style. The problem is that she isn't particularly skinny and is also much too successful to be 'STW niche'. She also don't talk in a northern way.
So, epic fail really. Poor girl, she must be gutted.
Here she is at the Brits from [s]earlier this[/s] last year. Introduced by James Corden... fill your boots STW...
I think she's fabulous and amazingly talented. I don't generally feel the need to listen to someone talking if they are a singer as I just like to listen to them singing but whenever I've heard her speak she's just funny and honest.
Such anger - I'm guessing she must have dumped you no?She was fat and talentless then
She'd probably think you're butt ugly too.just can't get passed the fact she looks like Matt Lucas in Drag
Honestly, jealousy makes some people behave very oddly.
It's what I assume about almost everything everybody on this site posts, that way I get to retain my faith in humanity.
Now THIS is a fair point! 😉
She's no Polly Jean.
She's not, is she? Different is what I'd say.
I'm still wondering what accent the OP has to put him in the position to comment on and criticise others.
If she was a Scouser, we'd all understand. 😉
Well I watched TSY's vid to 2:11 then stopped it and restarted the Youtube I'd paused: Holiday. On the basis of a 2:11 sample Adele makes music for miserabale people to cry to.
music for bedwetters and to fill the awkward silences at middle class dinner parties after the jacobs creek has run out.
She reminds me of Alison Moyet.
She can sing, that can't be argued with, but the dreary shite that she sings leves me cold.
Intrigued by OP so put this on iplayer while working. Shame to say that, so far, I feel the OP has a point. Ok, not fair to comment on accent but fair cop with the drivel and the gratuitous swearing right from the off. Pity because the music is mellow and nice to work to.
MrSmith - very drole!!
Ordinary everyday people should be banned from TV, cos y'know, ordinary everyday people don't watch it do they? Wanna moan about someone how about Katie Talented Price? God she gets on my fake manboob implants.
Hard not to love/be moved by the climax.
She's a very good singer, and not just knocking out other people's songs either. Not really my taste in music but I don't understand how anyone can not respect her...
It's STW Northwind lol!
I don't understand how anyone can not respect her...
i don't understand how anyone can "respect" somebody for singing? unless they battled back from throat cancer or had to suffer persecution in their native country and endure a treacherous and dangerous journey to enjoy freedom of expression without censure.
You're right enough MrSmith, those are the only 2 times you should ever respect a musician.
I reckon she'd be a right laugh on a night out.
You're right enough MrSmith, those are the only 2 times you should ever respect a musician.
what about a vocalist?
Mr smith, you can have respect for an ability.
it really is ****tery of the highest order to trash her for being fat - on that basis, we'd also have to dump:
Aretha Franklin
Cass Elliot
Monserrat Caballé
Alison Moyet
and so on...
That's just the out and out chubbies I can think of off the top of my head, there are plenty of other incredibly gifted female vocalists who are on the big side - Joni Mitchell was no slip of a lass!
but emsz, she speaks like a commoner and has a lardy ass, don't get off topic!
Aretha doing her thing, alongside that other talentless chubbie: John Belushi...
Mr smith, you can have respect for an ability.
so true. a chav wheelie on an apollo rampage is a beautiful thing.
MrSmith - Memberwhat about a vocalist?
If she was just a singer, you could perhaps knock her for that- though a grear singing voice isn't just a gift, it's an instrument that needs practice and commitment to get the best of.
But, she also writes her own songs, so you can't just use the feeble "Oh, she was just born with a gift" line.
So that just leaves "She's a bit fat" as a criticism. And I'd be totally with you there, if she was a professional athlete or a stripper or a gym coach or something.
music for bedwetters and to fill the awkward silences at middle class dinner parties after the jacobs creek has run out
LOL, by the way excuse my ignorance but whats a bed wetter?
Every once in a while there will be an album that comes along that certain people buy, and by certain people i mean people who don't regularly buy music.
It happened when David Grays White Ladder came out, coffe table dinner party music. Nothing wrong with White Ladder but it soon became the music that was on in the background at every middle classed dinner party. Also see Seldom Seen Kid by Elbow, bonus useage for that Day Like This song now played at weddings for the first dance so the newlyweds can say "even though we appear boring, look, we like indie music"
Adele's albums are no different, safe music for safe people
...and then, on the other side of the divide there are some people who have an issue with liking music that other people like.
But, she also writes her own songs, so you can't just use the feeble "Oh, she was just born with a gift" line.So that just leaves "She's a bit fat" as a criticism. And I'd be totally with you there, if she was a professional athlete or a stripper or a gym coach or something.
lets get a couple of things straight:
1. i could use the line "she's a bit fat" but i haven't and didn't consider it.
2.i could use the line "Oh, she was just born with a gift", but i haven't and didn't consider it.
by the way excuse my ignorance but whats a bed wetter?
a bit like a 'melt', 'cretin' or 'wetlip'

Much like those that won't ride a bike that other people like. 😉

You must eat out a great deal to know that.
Why is it that as soon as music becomes popular (which suggests it appeals to may ears) it's immediately dissed on STW?
I like JJ Goldman, Slade, Extrabreit, the Seekers, Fleetwood Mac - more mainstream you won't find. Should I be embarrassed or ashamed, or rejoice in liking things millions can sing along to.
Edit: but no I don't like Adele, not mainstream or happy enough.
Joni Mitchell was no slip of a lass!
Apologies to Ms Mitchell - not sure why I had it in my mind that she was a bit bigger than that 🙄
That's just the out and out chubbies I can think of off the top of my head, there are plenty of other incredibly gifted female vocalists who are on the big side - Joni Mitchell was no slip of a lass!
Though Elvis had a bit more success with his cover.
MrSmith - Member2.i could use the line "Oh, she was just born with a gift", but i haven't and didn't consider it.
And yet you think she's not a musician- she's just a "vocalist".
Why is it that as soon [s]as music[/s] a bike becomes popular (which suggests it appeals to [s]may ears[/s]many riders) it's immediately dissed on STW?
Well, it's because people just looooooove to appear "individual" and "different" and tell you all about it. 😉
