Adding POP3 accounts to Outlook.com

I've been using Outlook 2007 for years to manage my calendar, Hotmail email and a couple of POP3 accounts from BT.

Microsoft have recently kicked a number of Outlook versions from the platform, ostensibly to implement modern encryption, but I suspect that the primary motive is to drive people to pick up an Office 365 subscription.

So I thought that I'd simply move across to Outlook.com's web interface and work from there, it'd just be a case of adding on my 2 POP3 accounts (it was a doddle the last time I tried it). It turns out that the ability to add non-Microsoft email accounts to Outlook.com was removed in May 2021 (although accounts added prior to this still work) and is now a premium feature (upgrade or sub to Office 365 - I don't intend to do either).

I don't want to be stuck using the dire Windows 10 built in apps, so I'm a bit stuck.

However, I've noticed that Microsoft are offering a 1 month free trial of Office 365. Does anyone know whether, if I take a trial and add my POP3 accounts and cancel my subscription, the POP3 accounts will remain accessible to the free version of Outlook.com or are they forever tied to the paid for premium service only?

Personally with your use case, if I absolutely couldn't move away from POP3, I'd be looking at Thunderbird.
