Goldfish, shabumpkim (whatever) etc. Wil they just carry on a normal or do they tend to not like new friends?
There are three in already, quite happy.

Also, what's good for pissing cats off?

Keep in isolation for a while as they may have bugs etc. Usually they are fine. Some fish find fish with fancy fins something to nip, especially koi like doing this, for experience.

Aside from digging a new hole, what's the best way to keep one isolated?

While we're here, what the **** happens in Winter. 5*3*3ft pond?

To keep them isolated you need a tank really, so you can keep an eye on them for a week or two and also treat the water with anti bacterial treatment. The danger if you don't is that they bring in an infection which can wipe out the pond (I found this out the hard way). It depend how attached you are to the existing fish or how expensive they are if you bother with the isolation period or not.

I've never had a problem with new fish not getting on with the existing ones, mine are koi, goldfish and shubunkin. Everytime I've introduced new ones they've gone straight over to the other and 'joined in' with what they are doing.

Come winter there's not a lot you need to do, i stop feeding mine when the temperature fall below 10 degrees average. When it starts to freeze just make sure theres a hole in the ice, a plastic football in the water usually does the trick

Alligator, to keep the water theme going.

Or Lion poo.

I love my garden.

I've also not had a problem introducing new goldfish to our pond. In winter however I pull the fish out of the pond and put them in a large water barrel in the cellar. Winters can be very hard in these parts and we can have several weeks of well below zero temperatures and the pond freezes solid.
