Clooney was in the American so definitely not. Tom Hardy was in some gay film about two spies dating the same girl. Clive Owen was in Killer Elite.
Christian Bale is a shout, although was in shaft, what do we think of that?
My vote goes to Robert Redford
Edit: scratch that, the horse whisperer.
Quantum of Solace?
Hardly a fair one as the scriptwriters were on strike during filming so they made bits of it up as they went along.
Steve McQueen Mr Cool surely hasn't been in any duffers has he?
Hmm, checking Johnny's IMDB, his - shit: quality ratio is overloaded in the shit dept. Apologies
Apology accepted. 🙂
The prosecution moves to strike Gary Oldman based upon "The Fifth Element"
That's a quality film. 😕
The prosecution moves to strike Gary Oldman based upon "The Fifth Element"
No way.
Looks like Rusty Spanner has it with John Cazale. Can't argue with the quality of his movies.
The prosecution moves to strike Gary Oldman based upon "The Fifth Element"
great film and Gary is superb in it.
Will Smith
Oh, forgot Peter Sellers too.
After Earth rules Will Smith out.
Gary Oldman's a good one. The ratio is mostly quality, however: Sid & Nancy, Lost in Space, Harry Potter... I suspect he was actually good in those bad films though.
Audrey Tautou
and Wild Wild West and I am Legend.
Anyone said James Caan?
Sorry Dez - Micky Blue Eyes. 🙁
James Caan? Not for Mickey Blue Eyes amongst others.
Edit: Or even worse That's My Boy.
Did you read the OP?
which actors have appeared in the most good films and/or the least shit ones.
brian cox (not that one 😉
Peter sellers was in A film called the gardener, which was toilet (shame)
Leonardo di Caprio was in some terrible films; Titanic, Romeo and Juliet
Ethan Hawke?
Agree with dicaprio and Clive Owens.
How's about morgan freeman ?
Definitely not done a bad film
Hard Rain.
High Crimes.
The Big Bounce.
Dreamcatcher.
To name a few 😉
edhornby - MemberPeter sellers was in A film called the gardener, which was toilet (shame)
If you mean 'Being There', it's a great film. 🙂
DezB - MemberDid you read the OP?
Yeah, but 3 pages ago! 😀
Clive Owen
You can't count him because he can't act!
Paddy Considine.
Soon to be in 'Child 44' - can't wait.
edhornby - MemberLeonardo di Caprio was in some terrible films; Titanic, Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet might have been a crap film but it was a good music video (and besides, most of the problems it had came from the source material, the only way to make a good romeo and juliet is to throw it all away and make west side story)
Denzel Washington.... Fact.
Di Caprio has done the very hard thing of having a baby face & being a teen pin up but actually breaking away from those sort of films.
Just thought of Joseph Gordon-Levitt - but I'm sure someone will correct me!
EDIT - just checked IMDB - GI Joe - rise of cobra, but on the bright side I don't remember who else was in it...
Spencer Tracey - had a few good'ns
If you mean 'Being There', it's a great film.
Absolutely and I believe it was the film Sellers was most proud of.
Mark Strong
Up until the end of 2013 I would have said Saoirse Ronan however I did have the great misfortune to see the Host yesterday which was utter sh!te.
Bruce Dern
Humphrey Bogart
Ingrid Bergman
Gary Oldman : don't diss the Fifth Elelment...bonkers French SciFi 🙂
Judi Dench ( er.....damn! just rememberd the Chronicles of Riddick...)
Javier Bardem
Bill Murray.
Judi Dench ( er.....damn! just rememberd the Chronicles of Riddick...)
and a truckload of awful Bond films.
Can't think of a bad Woody Harrelson film...
David Prowse - Darth Vadar and the Green Cross Code Man
Whats not to like in his only 2 roles?
John mills
Ooh!
Ooh!
Dustin Hoffman!

Audrey Tautou
Can't argue with that.

A friend of mine was bequeathed his Rolls-Royce when he died. Now kept in a garage with a de-humidifier, to stop it rusting: not the best period for Rollers, apparently. Nice car, though.
Woody Harrelson
He was in 2012....
I reckon Arnie's good to bad film ratio is far better than say Pacino or De Niro. Also Bill Paxton has a half decent ratio also.
Dustin Hoffman!
THREAD CLOSED
+1 has been in more good films than duff ones...
Can't think of a bad Woody Harrelson film...
Indecent Proposal
I'd nominate Gene Hackman if no on else has.
French Connection alone should seal it.
Helena Bonham Carter, been in lots of good stuff. Mind you i quite like the one film that her husband keeps refining !
Cillian Murphy
Daniel Day Lewis
You were close except he plays the same part and has been in many awful films but people think they're good as Hollywood, lovies and film critics tell them it is.
Was watching Life On Mars and thought has the great Harvey Keitel been mentioned?
134 film credits, I suppose there must be some crud in there!
But - Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Thelma & Louise, er... Sister Act..?
Whilst filming the original "Sleuth" with Larry Olivier, in answer to the great man's advice about acting in films, Michael Caine said: "Larry - the public will always forget the turkeys, but you will always remember the money...". 😀
I haven't seen a bad film with Ben Foster in...yet! 3.10 to Yuma and Pandorum are the ones I can remember right now...
some of these cadged from other posts, but I vote:
bill murray
runners up:
denzel washington
ralph fiennes
lenny di caprio
chiwetel ejiofor
tom hanks
christian bale
maybe wes snipes?
ethan hawke?
francis mcdermond
juliette binoche
juliette lewis
rachel weisz
carey mulligan
tom hanks Seriously?!? EVERYTHING he does he ruins, so going by that he's never been in a good film!
Wesley Snipes? 😆
I reckon Paddy Considine is a good shout.
Don't know if he's been mentioned yet but I'd nominate Paul Newman. I'm sure he's probably been in a dud or two but the quality shines through.
If it wasn't for Prometheus the winner would probably be Michael Fassbender. The quality of the good films he had been in is pretty high.
Not Paddy Considine as he was in World's End.
Clooney was in the American so definitely not
The American is actually George's best film. So there.
Audrey Tautou has been in some crap. And I say that as a big Amelie fan.
Juliette Binoche, despite being the mother of my imaginary childen, has also been in some shite.
Cate Blanchett and Kristen Scott Thomas have mostly avoided being in dire films.
Bill Murray
John Candy
Dan Aykroyd
I was going to suggest Forest Whitaker, while I haven't seen nearly everything he has done, nothing I thought I had seen him in was crap. So I looked through his filmography on IMDB, and there it was like a stone in a bag of kittens dragging his career to a watery grave, Battlefield Earth!
Sean Penn
(ps. I have never seen Shanghai Surprise and I bet you haven't either)
William Fichtner
He's been in the odd stinker, but for the most part he's done some decent films, including one of my all time favourties - Black hawk down. He's also done the voices for some the GTA games which makes him instantly cool
Ron Eldard?
Eric Bana?
They've all been in shite films ,bill murray has ben walking around looking vaguely baffled for the past ten years , forest whittaker was in species and george clooney started his carreer in attack of the killer tomatoes ,sylvester stallone started in porn.

Cillian Murphy
Sunshine. Unfortunately.
I was going to nominate Simon Pegg. Notwithstanding the Mission Impossible francise...
Alec Guinness.
Graham Chapman
+1 for sean penn
trying to think of a naff film he was ever in? even his role in walter mitty is the best thing in the film.
I cant think of a truely naff brad pitt film ... sh1t, strike that, they were both in Tree of Life.
anonymouse - MemberAlec Guinness.
I reckon that's nailed it, after having a quick look. 🙂
I love Sunshine.... hmmm, controversial.
Guinness was in Raise the Titanic, but otherwise is putting in a very strong showing!
Wesley Snipes?
hey, someone spotted it! snipes has indeed been in a truckload of straight-to-video crapola fests
sean penn
good call
Cate Blanchett and
aargh! Indiana Jones Crystal Skull
otherwise, good call
Kristen Scott Thomas
Couldn't help noticing Confessions of a Shopaholic in the CV... but good call
Sean Penn...Shanghai Surprise.
Sorry Sean, it's the only blot on an otherwise excellent copybook.
Jim Broadbent,
Helen Mirren,
Maggie Smith,
Eileen Atkins (all Dames).

Sean Penn...Shanghai Surprise.Sorry Sean, it's the only blot on an otherwise excellent copybook.
As I said - I bet you haven't seen it...
May I nominate Quentin Tarantino for worst actor in some very good films
Edit: This is hard, even Mads Mikkelsen has been in some dross
Edit x 2: Paul Newman has a good career, better than most of his contemporaries.
I still say Dustin Hoffman 😡
Clint Eastwood
Clint Eastwood
Nah, he was in that awful one that involved him and 2 other old blokes going into space. Forget the name
I was going to nominate Simon Pegg. Notwithstanding the Mission Impossible francise...
And Run Fat Boy Run
James Earl Jones?
Oh yeah Space Cowboys forgotten about that one, but he has been in some class
I still say Dustin Hoffman
Rainman - utter rubbish; Tootsie - garbage; Outbreak - indescribable.
Brendan Gleeson has a good ratio for me considering how prolific he is.
Can't fault Matt Damon much tbh..
Mrs anagallis is an actor and shes not been in any shit films ( or good ones) in fact I know loads and loads of actors who have not been in any films at all.
Kevin Smith. Not been in many films, but they're all great
