Clooney was in the American so definitely not. Tom Hardy was in some gay film about two spies dating the same girl. Clive Owen was in Killer Elite.

Christian Bale is a shout, although was in shaft, what do we think of that?

My vote goes to Robert Redford

Edit: scratch that, the horse whisperer.

Quantum of Solace?

Hardly a fair one as the scriptwriters were on strike during filming so they made bits of it up as they went along.

John Cazale:

Godfather 1 & 2, The Conversation, The Deerhunter & Dog Day Afternoon.

Not a bad CV really.
And that was it. 🙂

Good case for James Dean too.

Apology accepted. 🙂

The prosecution moves to strike Gary Oldman based upon "The Fifth Element"

No way.

Looks like Rusty Spanner has it with John Cazale. Can't argue with the quality of his movies.

Gary Oldman's a good one. The ratio is mostly quality, however: Sid & Nancy, Lost in Space, Harry Potter... I suspect he was actually good in those bad films though.

Romeo and Juliet might have been a crap film but it was a good music video (and besides, most of the problems it had came from the source material, the only way to make a good romeo and juliet is to throw it all away and make west side story)

Di Caprio has done the very hard thing of having a baby face & being a teen pin up but actually breaking away from those sort of films.

Just thought of Joseph Gordon-Levitt - but I'm sure someone will correct me!
EDIT - just checked IMDB - GI Joe - rise of cobra, but on the bright side I don't remember who else was in it...

A friend of mine was bequeathed his Rolls-Royce when he died. Now kept in a garage with a de-humidifier, to stop it rusting: not the best period for Rollers, apparently. Nice car, though.

I reckon Arnie's good to bad film ratio is far better than say Pacino or De Niro. Also Bill Paxton has a half decent ratio also.

Indecent Proposal

I'd nominate Gene Hackman if no on else has.

French Connection alone should seal it.

You were close except he plays the same part and has been in many awful films but people think they're good as Hollywood, lovies and film critics tell them it is.

Was watching Life On Mars and thought has the great Harvey Keitel been mentioned?
134 film credits, I suppose there must be some crud in there!
But - Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Thelma & Louise, er... Sister Act..?

Whilst filming the original "Sleuth" with Larry Olivier, in answer to the great man's advice about acting in films, Michael Caine said: "Larry - the public will always forget the turkeys, but you will always remember the money...". 😀

Don't know if he's been mentioned yet but I'd nominate Paul Newman. I'm sure he's probably been in a dud or two but the quality shines through.

If it wasn't for Prometheus the winner would probably be Michael Fassbender. The quality of the good films he had been in is pretty high.

Not Paddy Considine as he was in World's End.

The American is actually George's best film. So there.

Audrey Tautou has been in some crap. And I say that as a big Amelie fan.

Juliette Binoche, despite being the mother of my imaginary childen, has also been in some shite.

Cate Blanchett and Kristen Scott Thomas have mostly avoided being in dire films.

I was going to suggest Forest Whitaker, while I haven't seen nearly everything he has done, nothing I thought I had seen him in was crap. So I looked through his filmography on IMDB, and there it was like a stone in a bag of kittens dragging his career to a watery grave, Battlefield Earth!

William Fichtner

He's been in the odd stinker, but for the most part he's done some decent films, including one of my all time favourties - Black hawk down. He's also done the voices for some the GTA games which makes him instantly cool

Ron Eldard?

Eric Bana?

May I nominate Quentin Tarantino for worst actor in some very good films

Edit: This is hard, even Mads Mikkelsen has been in some dross

Edit x 2: Paul Newman has a good career, better than most of his contemporaries.
