Seeking inspiration for the old ones birthday. He s a fairly sprightly 72, comes biking with us on his e-fatbike, flies a microlight, and is off skiing for 2 weeks shortly having just got back from another ski trip after a Caribbean cruise (you can see where the inheritance is going).

Buying 'stuff' doesn't work as he can get most of what he needs (and my bro works in a bike shop so no point in bikey stuff). I generally try for activity based pressies, previously:
Trip round a gin distillers and cocktail making
Theatre
Meal somewhere nice etc

Any suggestions? The more oddball the better 😁

I know you say nothing bike-related but this is a great day out: https://www.cyclist.co.uk/news/2650/cyclist-track-days-2019-buy-your-tickets-now

Got my Dad a 'Drive a steam train' experience as he is into that, but sounds a bit tame for your old man!

Ps his cycling is more - play in the mud on an ebike for a bit then go to pub.

I got him a flight in a biplane for his 70th, tanks or trains may be a plan! He doesn't like boats much, can you get submarine trips? 😂

Budget? I have the same issue with my parents. Over the years they have had ( from me and my sister) a long weekend in Florence, a long weekend in Rome, a race car driving day, a day flying a small plane, a meal in a Michelin starred restaurant, a long weekend in a camper van, and I did look into hot air balloon flights. I think there have been other experiences as well.

This is a great idea - not sure on your budget but you are looking at £3k+ from Biggin Hill..

I did a velodrome taster session a couple of years ago - can highly recommend if he's not done it before.

i bought my Dad a 1-Day knife-making course a couple of years back - we loved it and both ended up with a usable tool.

Steam train driving is available at most Steam Railways.

Wanted to hire an AC Cobra for a day for my Dad, as it's a car he has always obsessed about.
Sadly it seems that only copies are loaned, somewhat understandable, and that wouldn't really be right.

Something like that?

Blacksmith experience. I did half a day with my dad. It was a really great experience for both of us.

Family karting day is a good shout tho.
