I'm after a camera to film (outdoor) climbing - mainly bouldering. I normally use my phone which is fine as far as it goes (Pixel 6 so pretty good camera) but generally need someone to film with it ( not ideal when I need a spot) or prop it against chalk bag which isn't brilliant. I'm also no sure how long it would video at 4k before it stopped

What I'm after us something I can set up to run for a while to film multiple lines or multiple attempts on a boulder in a single take/viewpoint so I can edit down

So not loads of fast moving action but high quality and can record for an extended period. I guess it doesn't have to run continuously but being able to easier start/stop without disturbing the shot.

Maybe I just need a good phone tripod stand.

I can run to GoPro money but am also a tightwad so not averse to a bargain although wary of false economy

edit - it's to publish on YouTube

I have a GoPro 7 black and use a mini tripod and remote on my wrist so I can get good shots and videos.

The remote allegedly works upto 180m distance but I've never tried it at those distances.

I went with a DJI Action 3 - very much a Go Pro competitor - about £100 ish cheaper it still has all the bells and whistles and comparable image quality and stabilisation. It’s compatible with all of the Go Pro mounts.

Compared to filming with my iPhone it’s a revelation. Image quality kinda similar, but the stabilisation is insanely good. It’s also tough and needs less care than a phone so I’m happier exposing it to danger E.g. handing it over to the kids half way round a go ape course etc so it actually gets used.

Its waterproof and the lens cover is a £20 replaceable part which is nicely reassuring for something that quite likely to get bounced of something hard at some point in its life.

Some video of a lap around Degla as an example. I’m no expert and I’m sure it could be made better but this gives an idea anyway.
