I bust the posterior cruciate ligament in a motorbike crash.
Didn't get surgery, just started exercising - how I got into cycling.

Now had to order new shorts cos my thighs are too big for my ones. Woo!

Not sure you could class the SPL as elite sport, but they should have asked Marvin Andrews who only took 2 weeks to recover from his ACL injury by asking Jesus to heal him.

I on the other hand had next to no stability in mine after a clean snap and needed the surgery and a year's physio before being able to walk without fear.

It's worth mentioning that if you don't take such an injury seriously enough you can end up in a whole world of pain and frustration..

Mine healed badly after it wasn't treated and due to the wholly unnatural muscle structure I now have in my leg I am only just now gaining some workable stability after more than four despondent years of getting sent round the houses with the NHS..

Not sure that I'd call England Scotland either...

Nobody is saying that they didnt take the injury seriously. Did you read the article and understand it?

I didn't say that they didn't.. I said that I didn't (although I really wish that I had)

Did you read my post and understand it?

That's OK, maybe I was a bit ambiguous

I guess the important factor is to start working on getting some form of rehabilitation immediately..?
It was months before I even had it properly checked out..

By the time I eventually got an MRI scan it had fully healed but not well

Not sure you read either of those posts and understood them....

My point was that this is nothing new, there have been tons of cases of footballers returning without ACL surgery (of which Marvin playing in Scotland was one). This article seems to suggest that this is the first time its ever happened. Of other things to note in the article is the lack of any statistical analysis of the pre and post performance review, and the total absence of any control groups? How do we know that footballers who have surgery don't exceed their pre-injury performance due to the additional gym sessions?

My surgeon was banging on about some footballists thighs last time I saw him. Some England player who had acl surgery recently.

I'm a little confused. Is the ACL completley healed? As in, the the two disconnected ends have found each other and rejoined? In the image it looks like they haven't...

No, the ACL is still completely ruptured, it's just the the player have developed sufficient neuromuscular control to be able to play at at elite level without a functioning ACL.

everything else must be wound pretty tight - wonder if that's why he popped it?

Ive just had mine fixed 9 weeks back now. I continued to do Judo and MTB'ing for 2 years after the initial knee dislocation and tear due to having enough muscle to hold it all together. Trouble is, when I needed it and I was doing a Judo throw and my knee wanted to twist when under extreme load, twist it did and **** me it hurt.

So I've had it fixed and Ive had it fixed now as I dont want to be 50 odd and have weaker knee muscles and bu susceptible to it moving about and wearing away my cartilage evn more than it already is.
