I finally got a diagnosis on my ankle last week and it's Achilles Tendonopathy. Now this started about a month after my daughter was born, prior to that I unofficially stopped cycling about 4 months before due to some problems my wife was having during pregnancy.
I joined a gym today and did 5 miles on the bike and could feel that whole part of the ankle stretching nicely without pain.
So is it possible the regular exercise I was doing every week helping my ankle? Other than the other obvious benefits
(This may be a thinly veiled attempt at informing the wife that a new bike may be on "doctors orders")
If it's not causing you pain then yes, you will be strengthening that tendon. Initial pain that goes away does not count!
What normally brings the pain on?
I've got patella.tendonopathy and apparently not using it only helps weaken it. I was told it's basically chronic inflamation that has caused the tendon to degrade. Apparently it needs to be used just enough to hurt to cause the right type of colagen to help repair it but not to much that it causes it to get inflamed again. Or something like that. Mine stemmed from a dodgy ankle causing my knee to work wrong.you just Need to find what's causing it. My knee is now working properly but is still sore a year and a half on.
