My parents are dropping off their touring caravan near Abersoch for me & my other half in September
I've not been there in about 30 years so looking for recommendations for placess eat/drink, things to do etc.
We might take some bikes but it will just be pootling about to & from site and to head out to some of the nearby beaches.
If you've not been there for 30 years you might be in for a bit of an eye-opener
Will you be in a Range Rover, towing a powerboat?
Have you got a Range Rover, BMW or Audi SUV? If not I'm afraid your sort aren't welcome! 🤣

I've not been there in 30 years, and that's like how it was then. Good old Bramhall-On-Sea.
Take a copy of the Cheshire Chronicle to help you blend in.
(Or Manchester Evening News if you’re in a caravan)
Bramhall-On-Sea?
How frightful! Very much Alderly Edge-On-Sea of Hale Barns-On-Sea nowadays, old chap
Bramhall is a bit... you know... low rent. People from Bramhall would probably need to rent a place out here. Second home owners only these days, dear boy
The Spar shop in Abersoch has a tank of fresh lobsters as you walk in. I''m not even joking. THE SPAR SHOP.😳
I'll drive the Clio into Abersoch under cover of darkness!
Lol just had a look at The Warren, I see they have a helicopter landing area.
I think it’s really friendly there. You know everyone’s first name as they’ve taken the trouble to write it on the front and back of their vehicle.
the best thing to do when in Abersoch is leave and go to Aberdaron
Drive to Blaenau Ffestiniog and pootle up the private road to Stwlan Dam (very scenic views from top).
Harlech and push the bikes up Ffordd Pen Llech. 😆
Llyn Celyn (mentioned in another thread regarding food), Bala Lake and Lake Vernwy (Hirnant Pass route view is supposed to be lovely).
Rhosneigr is better, it's like Abersoch was 20 years ago, but with jets.
I'd suggest places further down the Welsh coast too, but if you have a chance of a getaway this year and it's booked, smile and thank them profusely. We've just had a fortnight in the far east in a mate's apartment and it was super. As for bikes, if you've a bunch to choose from, roadie or gravel, very few bridleways in that part of Wales. Nothing wrong with Abersoch as such. Like most small UK resorts, you go to sit on the beach, and walk the hills behind it, it does that just fine.
Went there 2 years ago, never been before. Really nice part or the country, I liked it, but I don't get it. The town is boring, the pubs and restaurants are generic, the beaches aren't that amazing. So what is it that's bringing in the money?
The satanic rituals and human sacrifices they conduct at night on the beach
My inlaws live in Pwllheli, we go a lot but its rare we go into Abersoch. If we did we probably wouldnt eat there - for somewhere so pretentious the two main pubs are both a bit of a dive. ok for a pint tho. in fairness the beach is incredible on a nice day (excluding school holidays) Chippy is decent, and the butchers is good for bbq tackle.
The quality of boozers on the whole peninsular has been a bugbear of mine for donkeys, but things are improving. Pontoon Pwllheli is great but they dont seem to have re-opened post lockdown yet. FiL local is the Madryn in Chwilog, under new management - decent in there. Y Bryncynan on the way to Nefyn is alright too. obviously Ty Coch is a must if you've never been. There is a cracking cafe in Criccieth too, No46.
Abersoch has some lovely walks out over the headland, or you could do Tre Cieri iron hill forts. i always have wander up Garn Boduan, easy hike for killer views (and theres a little DH track on there someone has been building)
Walk the coastal path - it's all stunning but you're most likely to see dolphins between Abersoch and Porth Ceirad. Porth Ceirad is probably the best beach - nice waves, and the fact that it's harder to get to means it's almost never crowded. The headland at Cilan is a beautiful place from which to watch the sun go down. The art gallery at Llanbedrog can be interesting, they usually have some events on, and it has a good café. The walk up the steps from Llanbedrog beach and round the headland is fun. The views from the top of Garn Fadryn can be epic, unless you're in a cloud - it's Wales, after all. There's no mountain biking, but you can make some really nice road loops on the tiny lanes - just spend some time with the OS map.
So what is it that’s bringing in the money?
It has a decent beach, boat storage & launch facilities, and a couple of hours from Manchestaah suburbs, and not as staunchly Welsh as (say) Pwllheli. (Pwllheli marina is fairly new).
I suspect it really took off back to when alcohol was banned on Sundays (30+ years ago)- the Abersoch Powerboat Club* was the only place on the whole peninsula that served alcohol.
*No powerboat necessary, but membership required - clearly only the right type of 'member' need apply.
It is ridiculously up-market, main things to do are go powerboating/waterskiing or hire a SUP board. Take a walk down the coastal path for free. Pwllheli marina is worth a look if you like sailing.

This is worth a follow for things to do in Abersock. Take your jetski and try and find some dolphins!
You can hire SUP, kayaks etc, beach is great for Corrie star spotting, or occasional football players (apparently I wouldn't know one if I fell over them) beach is great and town ok for basics shopping wise, be aware nobody sells food after 9pm no chippys or pizza places etc. Ty Coch at Morfa Nefyn worth a walk as its a must see locally
Not sure what all the dislike is over the place isnt that bad.
I have never been in the summer though.
Zinc do good food, good place for coffee and breakfast
Porth Ceriad is nice around the corner.
Good road cycling around the peninsula very quiet.
Coastal path is good for a walk. You might get lucky and see dolphins.
Aberdaron..... Yeah, right!!
Abersoch:
Beach is great and the coastal path walks are amazing (as already said).
SUP, kayak and boat hire will all be available from Abersoch sailing school which is up at the yacht club end of the beach.
At the other end is (what used to be called) Mickey's which is a good destination for a walk along the beach.
Food - zinc is great for breakfast but I'd go to The Cove for an evening meal - as it's kinda part of the yacht club it has the best views anywhere and the food is excellent.... Not pricey either ( https://www.thecoveabersoch.co.uk/)
If you want to spend more though go to The Potted Lobster which is really good but priced to match.
Mananas is something of an institution of you like Mexican and Fresh is also recommended.
Crust does very good pizza (only), they do take out or eat in but it's pretty small inside.
Drinking: the two pubs in the village are average but hopefully zinc bar will be open again very soon and there's also Après Sea which is OK.
About 1.5 miles out of the village is The Sun in llanengan which is nice and trad.
September's a great time to go, the crowds will be gone and hopefully you'll still get nice weather.
Llanbedrog (just next door) has a great, quieter beach with a stream running through it. Used to have a nice café, no idea now.
If you can get out to St Tidwal's islands a few miles offshore at low tide, there will be hundreds of seals flopping about and saying hello. Mackerel fishing is always a good shout.
Walk/gravel bike the pilgrims path towards Bardsey for an end of the world feeling.
Surfing obviously.
Cnicht, 'The Welsh Matterhorn'!!! isn't far.
There's loads of stuff to do around there.
Actually, the Spar in Pwllheli has Lobsters. In Abersoch, it's a Londis
We were there before the summer holidays…it’s fine as long as you don’t waste any time or money by eating out. Slow slow service and very average food. Get yourselves a bbq/wine/beer and chill out in the evenings instead. Save yourself £££‘s
Not been in the height of summer for ages, but it’s still a jet ski Mecca for the show offs. The far side of the beach is quieter and has a decent cafe/car park by the boat yard-if you can find it.
Personally I’d head to Whistling sands every day, lovely beach, NT car park & cafe. Away from the roasters too.
Thanks for the replies - it looks like the site my folks are dropping their caravan off is closer to LLanbedrog than Abersoch. Hopefully our Clio won't look too out of place there 😀
