It's Run The Jewels for me, had it on hard repeat all year.

Followed by Pusha T's My Name Is My Name and probably Flatbush Zombies' Better Off Dead.

Yunki : At the risk of appearing nepotistic have a listen to Soma Compilation 21 by Gary Beck, a very good selection & DJ mix of the best of Soma over the past year, have a look through the rest of the soma catalogue as well, some excellent Techno/Tech house driven tunes have been released over the past 12 months.

Oi! I didn't have a rant about Daft Punk so you're not allowed to slag off someone choosing Bonobo!

I wasn't slagging off Bonobo (strokes his twin gatefold 12" of Black Sands) just North Borders, giving it another listen now to see if I was being harsh but nope, elevator music for people in expensive jeans. 😕

Now recent Daft Punk, christ now there's some properly boring music, shame, their 1st Album was fun.

Trentmoller - Lost
Oneohtrix Point Never - R Plus Seven
James Lavelle - Living in my headphones pt1

Disappointed by the latest Bonobo and Daft Punk as I've loved their albums in the past.

Some 303's here

And if you want some techno, this set from The Black Dog is pretty good.

I listen to music through Spotify, and generally on random or playlists, but the albums I keep going back recently to are Volcano Choir's Repave and The Tallest Man On Earth's There's No Leaving Now.

Just had a quick listen to that p7rich. Soulful music with a hint of jungle. Filthy! Right up my musical street. Any similar recommendations would be welcomed.

P7rich, that album is pretty good and shows his versatility, but I think Lee Gamble and Zomby do that sound a lot better. I have been liking the Akkord and Logos records too.

I can't really think of an album that's really blown me away this year, but there are two I keep going back to, just because of the utterly sublime singing on one, and well sung, beautifully melancholy songs on the other, and they're 'Dead & Born & Grown', by The Staves, and 'Little Letters', by Paper Aeroplanes.
'Winter Trees', by The Staves is just stunning, a beautiful winter/Christmas song.

Might be a bit mainstream for the niche-whores, but I'm still loving James Blake, and Arcade Fire's latest. Arctic Monkeys still a regular on the playlist too.

I'm really tempted to throw in some made up bands. Can I mention Spastic Waffletaster's last cd? It wasn't really a cd, more a compilation of their first 4 EPs but still...

1) Earth Rocker by Clutch (nice to see a few fellow Clutch fans on this thread)

2) Blackbird by Fat Freddy's Drop

3) Lightning Bolt by Pearl Jam (needs 10 listens or so to click mind you)

The new Red Fang and Transplants albums are quite good too.

The prevalence of Clutch fans shouldn't be too much of a surprise on here.

Clutch fans = Beards = Real ale enthusiasts = Steel 29ers = STW

Red Fang's Wheels & Leeches is another one I'm having trouble getting my head around though, not a bad album but nothing special. I think it'll grow on me. if I give it time.

Ooooo just thought of another one: Atlantean Kodex - The White Goddess, thunderous goodness.

Already seen it mentioned but giant +1

For Volition by Protest the Hero.

kezia is one of my all time favourite albums and wasn't sure they would ever top it, but this has blown it clean out of the water.

*currently listening to it for the 1500000000 time*

One day I'm going to do a correlation between music threads, obscure coffee/coffee machines, pretentious razor users, loudly proclaiming I don't own a TV/only listen to 6 Music, scandium fixies and anything else niche threads - and I'm pretty sure the same culprits would be present in more than a few 👿 😉 😀

Not bought that many, but AM for me - arguably their best yet.

This year, I have mostly listened to Polish nursery rhymes. Anyone want a link? It's a unique experience...

Best album: 'What I've always waited for' - Nu Logic

Track of the year though is Fred V and Grafix's 'Goggles'. Jaw dropping on a proper system.

So, limiting this to albums released this year...

White Lies - Big TV. Solid album if lacking the feeling and emotion of their first.

And... The Floor is Made of Lava - Kids and Drunks. Danish band, sing in English. Absolutely awesome live. Google them if you like guitars, strained lyrics and beautiful story telling.

Clutch fans = Beards = Real ale enthusiasts = Steel 29ers = STW

That is such a narrow-minded sweeping generalisation of a statement.

I sold my steel 29er and now have carbon, thank you very much.

Mrs cloudnine has just gone out to a kids party with the little uns and first chance to listen to this. Fired up my BK XXLS400 sub and had the windows vibrating.. a rare opportunity to vibrate next doors walls.
I was thinking of selling my sub but its worth having one for tracks like these. Thanks 8)

Certainly not a new album, but I just can't get enough of Consolers of the Lonely, by The Raconteurs.

In my opinion, it has got to be one of the best albums ever written.

Valerie June - Pushin against a stone
Arctic Monkeys - AM
Wooden Shjips - Back to land

are all getting played regularly. James Skelly and the Intenders album is also worth a listen and I've just received the Melt Yourself Down album which sounds promising.
