My trusty old Woolly Hat Shop battery charger has had it. It gets too warm and the display flashes oddly. Two of the charging docks don't work at all so it's now in the weee.
The Duracell chargers seem well thought of and come with cells too which is always a bit of a bonus but I'm after real world recommendations, in a STW "Which" magazine style.
Many thanks in advance for any useful suggestions, ta.
Ambrose 👍🏼
I found the duracell one a bit meh but can't remember why now. Currently (ahem) using a panasonic bq-cc55 which you can also get with their own Eneloop batteries which are excellent.

Bought an Energizer one and Energizer batteries a couple of years ago. Can't remember what they were called but they were not cheap. They are however absolute bobbins. I see IKEA do their own at a bargain price, if their rechargeable stuff is anywhere near as good as their trusty old (discontinued in favour of rechargeables) AA and AAA batteries then you won't find better for your money. Obviously you need an IKEA within reasonable distance which may render my recommendation moot but at least you can also take away the recommendation to avoid Energizer.
Nitecore i2 smart charger has been doing the job for me since 2016 whether that be AA/AAA or 18650 batteries. Varies models depending on your spend and how many batteries you need to charge at once
nitecore charger for its ability to charge odd numbers of batteries. and as above 18650.
I have one of these, used it for a few years... You can find them under a few different brands, so probably worth shopping around. The smart charging functions really do work, it's saved a bunch of batteries that my old charger wouldn't even recognise and I trust it when it says, na, this is knackered.
X3 but mine is a Uniross. Sometimes it won't charge overly discharged batteries but a boost with a dumb charger usually gets them going and you can do a recondition cycle on them. I always charge at 200mah as well to try and preserve the life.
I bought a MAHA-POWEREX MH-C9000PRO as it can analyse and work out functioning battery capacity. Bit spend though at £70.
The ikea chargers are great, but only charge batteries up to 2450mah.
If you’re lucky and hunt around Lidl’s, they do a combined plug/ 4 battery charger that goes up to 2700mah. It’s got a usb socket on the side, too.
They cost about £17 and come with a free pack of four aa/aaa.
I’ve also seen their 8 slot de/ charger, but there was no mention of battery capacity.
Slight tangent but not enough to start a new thread-
Do I remember correctly that some rechargeable AA batteries are a bit bigger than others? My son complains that one of his X Box controllers shakes the batteries loose and it stops working every now and again.
My Varta rechargeable AA's are ever so slightly larger diameter than their disposable equivalent. Only maybe 0.5mm overall, but enough for it not to fit in my sons toy train without getting it stuck
+1 for that Youshiko one (but mine's an old 7dayshop branded version). The testing and refresh stuff is great for batteries that have been sat around for a while or completely discharged by the kids.
I've had a standard duracell jobbie for longer than I can remember.
It charges the batteries.. Am I doing something wrong?
