While clearing out my mother's house, I came across a photo/postcard from a German soldier in WW1. There are a couple of other photographs including one of what I assume is his son. There is an address of sorts on the postcard, but I can't make enough of it out to be any use...it is a military address. All I am sure of is that he was a rifleman, and the photos were taken in 1916.
Before I was born, my grandparents and great grandparents had a farm in Freshford (Bath) and I know they had POWs working on the land in WW1 and WW2. I assume this is how the documents came into their possession. Anyway, they mean nothing to me except for curiosity value. They may have more relevance for (his) family members...if they still exist.
Obvious difficulties such as time, destruction of records in WW2 etc may make this an extremely long shot but it might be worth a try. Any ideas where I might start?
Would there maybe be a repatriation record from the UK side?
German Embassy in the UK, they could point you in the right direction for a military contact!
