My wife was feeling a little glum yesterday. The new Covid strain was playing heavy so I tried to cheer her up with some positives. Our life is a peace of piss compared with others - so we have no reasons to complain or feel sorry for ourselves but it would interesting to hear others rays of positivity that you are clinging to.

A couple of my positives to get you started.

It didn't get dark till 17.30 and was light at 0700 this morning.
The UK tourist industry is probably set for another bumper year after an easing of the lockdown.
The nursery is still taking our 3 year old in the mornings and the older one has been given a computer from her school
Our immediate family have all survived a dose of Covid without any long term effects

Many thanks (no negatives on this thread please)

Ben

I’ve ordered a box of crab from the Skye oyster shed following a recommendation on another thread. Thursday will be crab and wine evening.

My dogs start every day with positivity and love!!

Vaccines are here and will adapt quickly even if mutations cause issues.

Ive used lockdown 3 as a chance to lose weight and get fitter.

The USA is now ruled by a normal person.

Spring is coming and the bluebells are sprouting in the woods.

Aye, daylight is a boon.

The increase in folk exercising and exploring their locality has been great - my local corbett frinstance has a very obvious 'path' visible from the road for the first time ever*. My local high street has improved considerably since this started, a few stagnant businesses gone, replaced with a really good wee baker, a cheesecake shop, and a cafe ran by a local farm that also sells it's produce. I can now buy fresh fish and shellfish straight off a local boat for the first time in years.

The amount of digging locally that was going on during spring last year was awesome, still seeing new stuff spring up, folks hopefully keep this going as opposed to driving the guts of 2hrs to the Tweed valley every weekend.

*The authorities now need to wake up to this, an area that has seen no investment is now a hotspot, and hopefully may remain so, parking, signage, path investment etc would be a very wise move indeed for future generations.

Wow, we're just happy to see tiny snowdrops around here.

Dryanuary is now over so I can get totally wrecked if I want.
Haven't felt the need to yet though.

Plus one on the snowdrops and daylight.

Yesterday I went to see a Mumuration that's going down near to where I live.
That was pretty epic.

turn off the news.. these *New* strains are nothing new.

a few days break from social media and the news will do a world of good, get outdoors and breath in that fresh air and daylight is coming..

ps. make a choice of central heating or hot water, that was my decision on tuesday after two days without a shower. I'm now pretty chilly, smell ok though, :0), new boiler tomorrow.

As you say there are many far worse off. my savings cover the cost. many don't have that option.

Everyday I ride my bike even if it’s only a 6 mile loop to the shops. It’s great! And WFH I can play anything I want without wondering if others will like it.
An album of Bond themes on loud currently. 👍🏼

I have been doing a photo a day since New Year, I had forgotten what an excellent way it is to find beauty in the day to day.
Look out, look up and look around.

Another vote for the return of daylight

We don't live anywhere near @eddiebaby

More fish and shellfish will be surviving

Neighbor's daffodils are out

My Teckel woke me up by sneezing in my face the scratching his eyes on my beard.

Best thing so far hahaha.
Been back out on my road bike again due to lack of travel and am reminded that road is king. All good.

Yes, the increase in daylight is a nice feeling. Having passed my motorbike tests at the end of last year, I'm excited to start my motorcycle journey in the spring, hopefully.

I’ve just finished veganuary where I discovered a load of great new foods and I’m now working my way through all the leftover Christmas chocolates which have just sat there taunting me for a month 😃

Just booked 2 holidays:

a) Summer - a week in a luxury Forest Lodge close to Thetford, with kids facilities plus "Forest Survival days" for them, and Jnr and I will take our MTB's for the Thetford trails. A week of quite-ish relaxation in a big wooden house in the woods on a deck with BBQ and wine.

b) October HT - A popular Norfolk family resort we went to last year, but with an all-inc offer for a Private Lounge and £200 off.

Gives us all some together time to look forward to with no Border issues of concern.

Although we weren't able to be on our ski week last week, aren't we lucky to have 8 years of amazing memories of them to look back on.

Lockdown and cancelled holidays resulted in us re-doing the bathroom this year, so we have a really lovely new bathroom (first time I've ever really spent money on the house after living in it for 10 years).

We both kept out jobs through 2020, something many other people can't say.

Our rescue dog survived the auto-immune problem she had and is growing into a lovely pooch even if she does have her selective hearing and woofy moments.

I'm a miserable git most of the time, but with they way things are even I am making sure to focus on some of the goos stuff from time to time.

i did my first bike ride since october last year

was probably the slowest 22 miles in history BUT i saw a sparrowhawk on the verge of a country lane road that had just caught a pigeon. have never seen one before for real so was well chuffed (i didn't hang around as didn't want to scare it.

also saw an apache helicopter and a chinook flying about (i was riding on salisbury plain).
