Last night I managed to wash a nice teffel wok but dropped some chewing gum on it whilst it was still hot. I didn't notice to start with so liberally wiped the semi melted gum round the pan. I now can't get it off at all. Any ideas? I've tried washing up liquid and vinegar but neither worked (the vinegar did make it go green).
Will bathroom cillet bang ruin the non stick coating?
Baking soda?
Try freezing it. It hardens the gum which can then be scraped off
Lighter fluid. Its amazing stuff for removing sticky stuff.
Also excellent for cleaning photographs.
Maybe try putting it in the freezer and scrape off with a wooden spoon when its brittle and hard or Burn it off with a flame thrower
Beer?
After you have had one chuck it out and buy a new one?
bin the wok and get one of the cheap pressed steel ones from a Chinese supermarket. Season it, look after it, it'll be good for 4 or 5 years, then replace it.
they're the best
Isopropanol might work, it's what screen cleaner mostly consists of.
Ok. I will report back tomorrow on the lighter
Fluid - don't think it'll fit in my freezer.
Well it's protein based.. so.. acid?
Swarfega
WD40!
Bloody idiots!
...bit of oil in the pan, heat it up nice and smokin' hot, swill hot oil around plenty of times and then wipe (quickly) a big handful of plenty around it.
Repeat if necessary.
Give it to your better half to clean?
😉

^This my £7 one is still going after about 14 years.
WD40 claim to remove all sorts of sticky stuff and it's my go to sticky stuff remover of choice.....never failed me yet.
Buy a proper carbon steel wok from the chinese supermarket, season with oil, scrub clean while hot with salt and kitchen paper towel if needed. No need for teflon woks as they wont take the high temps you need for REALLY good stir frys. Other than that a mix of heat and oil on your existing wok MAY work.
Wd40 but as a flame thrower bound to WOrK 🙂
Non-stick wok?
Bin it.

The first rule of wok: Never buy a non-stick coated wok.
The second rule of wok: Buy a carbon steel work with no coating.
The third rule of wok: A stainless steel wok is fine too.
The forth rule of wok: Bin the non-stick wok.

Sand the non-stick coating off, then as above.
salt , lots of it at bottom of the pan and put it back on the cooker as high as you can . leave it a few minutes till it becomes really hot then wipe it clean .
Alternatively, if you have Chinese supermarket near you get a carbon steel wok next time. They have flat and round bottom carbon steel wok. The latter is for your non-gas burner.
The answer to removing chewing gum (and many other uses) is eucalyptus oil. That's it.
