I’m a Sports Massage Therapist and work from home - a studio cabin in my garden.
I’ve been thinking about starting and running something that fits in with my business - maybe Neals Yard Remedies, or supplements of some kind.
Has anyone any experience of this type of thing or do the STW people have any ideas for a sideline that compliments what I’m doing?
Massage therapy is busy so I’m not looking for anything that is going to be a major project - just something that interests me and adds to what I’m doing.
Thanks.
Trying to resist an obvious suggestion 🙂

It may not end happily if you do...
I thought that was all about ending happily...?
Are you wanting to sell product or a service.
If the former it needs to have synergies with your massage work and be something that you believe in.
Are there lotions or bath stuff that you could offer and make a profit on? - candles for aromatherapy? - I cannot believe how Yankee Candle can make enough to justify their prime retail locations but shows the market is there.
Thanks for the input.
I’m looking at products rather than services.
Stock things to sell on to your existing customers?
Foam rollers, massage oil, rubber bands, memory foam pillows, copper braelets, home acupuncture kits, sports supplements, epo, bum cream ( for cyclits obvs)
You get the idea might work, low hassle as they are a captive audience
Yankee candles are rubbish.
If you want to sell an absolutely top notch candle at yankee prices you need to Potters Crouch.
David who owns the company was wax in his veins. By far our best selling candle. Quality wax all the way through not just on the top.
Relevant books?

Have you never looked at the price of the bloody things?
My wife used to get quite a bit of compression tape from her therapist after them introducing it to her as a solution for sore shins.
edit: its not compression tape it was kinesiology tape.
Associated goods sound like a good idea.
My Wife’s Trainer sells branded fitness bands and stuff like that.
Thanks guys
My wife is a phisio.
In a running shop there was a tennis ball in a "high tech" cover.
Tennis ball, 50p
Tennis ball in cover in cardboard box....£15!
She was horrified when I suggested selling them to clients and still sells tennis balls.
£15 tennis balls all the way to the bank!
If I was getting a sports massage then I'd certainly consider buying something related if it was nice, I would think something less than a tenner would be more likely to sell. Locally made would be good as you're seen to be supporting local small business, otherwise something from a sustainable business, eco credentials and all that.
Massage and aromatherapy oils would seem an obvious choice.
Those little clever cooling ice towels are cool, and only about a fiver.
Some nice moisturisers or other cosmetics?
Tiger balm / other similar stuff?
Not a fan of supplements and that kind of thing as I think a decent diet is far more important, but might appeal to some.
If you have a nice looking space then selling products that fit with the theme of the space you use might work?
Referees assistant?

I hope she changed therapists.
Always amazes me when I see athletes with that all over them - it quite clearly does absolutely nothing.
I just assumed they were covering up embarrassing tattoos.

What’s the point of a tennis ball with a fancy cover? Any benefit making you a betterer player will also be available to your opponent.
Golf ball I could understand cos you play with your own ball and your opponent shouldn’t get their hands on your ball!
I work for a essential oils / wellbeing company, and my mate runs a cosmetic oils start up. We do lots of business with massage therapists. I can give you some insight to start with if you're interested? DM me.
Went for a sports massage last night, if they sell stuff it puts me off using their services as a sales pitch at the end ruins my blissed out pummelled self.

So not a happy ending?
Referees assistant?
Very good.
😀
If you are a qualified Therapist, could you train as an analyst?
Then you could get a business card like Tobias

Thanks all - some good ideas there.

It was to make using it for massage better. My wife uses and recommends tennis balls and foam rollers to quite a few of her sporty patients for self massage- not a eufermism!
As for the high tech cover it just disguise the tennis ball to allow it to be sold for more money.
Euphemism even
