You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
My 10 year-old decided yesterday that if, in the cities, all private cars were banned and replaced by some form of two- and four-person pedal cars (with electrical assist), everything would be better. I think he’s thinking of some form of golf-cart type thing. In any case, he wanted me to start a thread to see if his idea checks out. So have a read-through, and tell him what you think.

I think junior could have a bright future!
Great idea but better not have pedal SUVs.
That’d be evil.
I think something like the Velomobile things with a battery/motor, but with space for kids and shopping would suffice for 90% of people pottering around town.

What happens when you live outside of the city and commute in? Such a situation would take 3x as long as by car where I am if I were to use public transport.
What happens to people who live in cities but need to travel for their jobs? (I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to be a rep using public transport, for instance).

If there were fewer cars then there would be more space for buses.
How many reps are there compared to people who have a fixed work place.
jjprestidge.... More like me-me-me-prestige....
Carry on looking at the world from you tiny window.

There’s plenty of space for buses, but there will never be enough buses to go where people need to go, because there will never be the money to pay for buses that only carry half a dozen people. In cities, maybe, but once out outside of those cities, people are spread far too thinly over far too great an area to be economically viable.
For many people locally, they may, if they’re lucky, get two buses a day.
I like the second idea of Toy Libraries particularly. That'd be excellent.
I love kids who think further forward than their peers.
Send it to Greta...
All sounds good to me.
Do mobile sales reps need to exist in 2020? We have the Internet these days, I think the world can manage without them.
Similarly, commuting to work- it'd be nice if people could live closer to work, and some people definitely could (for example, tight wads who moved to Livingston to get an extra bedroom they'll never use then drive to Edinburgh every day) but I appreciate most couldn't. But, again, we have the Internet. The big revolution will come when companies realise that its a waste of everyone's time having people leave their homes to sit at a computer in an office. Then we'll need neither cars nor buses for commuting, and that'll be nice.
Sinclair C5?
Tell jr to check out the Citroen Ami -the new mini Johnny cab type car rather the 2cv version.

Answering from Boston airport... we should be able to cut trips down by about 90%. An initial meeting in person is useful, then video calls after that. It needs a change on both sides though - they are a lot of customers out there who still want to see people in person when it's not really needed.
Working from home - if it can be done for the job and suits the person - should be the norm.
I'd probably have used Comic Sans...
Nahh. Nice work from the Saxette.
Big thumbs up from me! 👍🏼🙂
Toy libraries are a great idea.
They already exist though, most suburbs here in Melbourne have one this is our local one.
It does just prove the concept works though and should be introduced more widely in the world so get on it Saxon Jnr!
Has Saxon Sprocket been watching chucklevision?
