i use a 3 mobile contract dongle (ZTE MF112).as of a fortnight ago,my internet connection suddenly stopped working.i had a signal on the dongle, but every time i would try and get online,a page would keep coming up saying dfs server error (address not found) or something similar to that 😕
anyway i tried repeated full system virus scans with avast/spybot e.t.c changed internet settings,uninstalled/reinstalled 3 mobile software but no joy.
today i thought i would give it one more go. the internet connection is back 😕 😀
now as i'm no computer expert i am just a little confused as to why my connection disappeared for a couple of weeks, but has miraculously returned.
anyone able to shed any light onto this ❓
p.s it's great to be back by the way 😀
Could it have said dns server error?
A dns server is the server that translates the name you type in (for example singletrackworld.com) into an address on the Internet. If the one you are linking to goes down, so does your ability to browse the web.
I don't know how dongles work, but my guess would be that this problem is 3mobiles responsability.
That said, in the software you had to install, is there a section for choosing / giving a dns server? The address would look something like 212.23.4.184, for example - althougth the numbers could be very different, the format will remain!
ah yes that was what it said 😳
i did contact 3 mobile about the problem (both via phone/shop).they both said it was my computer that was at fault (was on phone for 40 odd minutes trying to fix the problem/went to a 3 mobile shop and the dongle worked fine in the guys laptop).
as my pc is quite ancient (it was kindly given to me by my friend 1.8 ghz for the win 😉
am currently saving up towards a more modern desktop pc.
Oh, I see! I had misunderstood and thought dongle was connected to mobile phone - oops!
Yes, if dongle hooked up with your computer then dns server info will also be on your computer.
Try going to the command line (perhaps found in start, all programs, accessories, command line) and type in 'ipconfig /all'
That should show you your dns servers. As for where you change them, uncertain but can think more tomorrow. Is bed now, sorry.
