Getting this all the time now but never had it on any other site.

I've read the redirect posts but can't find anything on this.

Non premium, iPad user.

used to get this all the time using Safari, so swiched browser to Opera Mini and no issues. May be something to do with all the adverts? (iPad 3 v12.1)

I’ve started getting this too on this site only - iPad user too. It’s a pain as when it reloads you have to start from the top of the feed again.....

I've been having this issue since the new site was 'deployed'.

I started a thread with the same title too, but no response. I've put it down to a number of factors pertinent to me, 5 year old iPad Gen 3 or 4, iOS 10.3.3 as updates on the iOS for this model iPad ceased last spring, I have rural internet and last but by no means least, this site is incredibly resource heavy. Typing this out is difficult because of the time delay in letters appearing on the page and my typing and every so often, the page jumps and I have to scroll down or up to get back to the text box.

It's utterly crap and I now rarely visit. However , I madve just got a refurb sixth gen iPad and hoping that one of my factors has been removed, so maybe the site will perform better? No other site or forum I visit behaves as badly as this one does on the iPad. It generally works much better on the Mac.

I'm also unable to select the numeric and character keyboard. Hard work.

@slackalice - try changing the default search within Safari from Google to an alternative, I use DuckDuckGo, but there’s Bing and Yahoo as well. Go into Settings>Safari>Search Engine.

This is certainly a PITA. Makes the time required for reading a thread on STW 3 times as long as the time required to read a thread anywhere else.

Particularly a pain if you've spent time writing out a post when it happens. I've taken to writing whatever I want to post in WordPad and then copy and pasting.

Not sure what software I'm running on my IPad but I don't recall seeing the problem on any site other than STW?

@cz, cheers chap, will do although somewhat at a loss as to why this particular sites' poor performance would be down to my default choice of search engine?

I'm hoping that my replacement iPad, due this weekend, will make viewing, let alone contributing, here much easier - my two year old work iPad Air with the latest iOS behaves much better.

Same here OP, i have given up several times replying to posts because of the issue. I Suspect its down to some of the adverts and the script they are using to load up/run which safari has a problem with.

iPad user here, too but using Chrome as a browser and the site often crashes on me. So it would appear not to be solely a Safari issue.

I may be wrong but ISTR that Chrome uses webkit on iOS. Basically it's a very similar rendering engine to Safari. I saw this bug many moons ago with a site we developed that required a lot of memory. The fault was reported by many to Apple but they had no interest at all in fixing it. We had to do a lot of Javascript engineering to work-around.

@davidb - Why would Apple even entertain the idea of messing about with their browser app to accommodate a poorly designed and executed web site?

Even tthis ageing iPad with out of date iOS works on every other web site apart Fromm this one. Apologies fo the typo's, I have little control over what I type and what's appears on screen.

As has been said above, STW works fine on my Mac, although I rarely use that's to read the internet.

+1

Even when it does load the expanding and collapsing ads mean it's almost impossible to scroll and tap on anything specific
