@Sandwich,

And when I’m gone
The worlds revolve and life goes on
So mark no grave
Forget my name
If the song remains
And everybody’s got a drink and a smile
Well, that’s just fine by me

I'm not having a funeral. Don't want any fuss and certainly dont want my family to have to shell out on unnecessary nonsense. Just turn me into ashes and that's that.

No song necessary. Maybe R4's Today programme playing in background.

@Northwind an edit that was disturbed before I posted Eulogy.

Sandy Denny Who Knows Where The Time Goes and Emmylou Harris's Prayer In Open 'D', with Rachmaninov's Isles Of The Dead' as backing for any readings.

My main things in my life have been dogs, motorbikes, push bikes and music.
The music has always been there regardless of anything.
This song sums up when you and the music become one and you totally let go.
A song to celebrate living and being yourself.

You'll find that cremation is, in many councils, more expensive than traditional burial, depending on location of the crematorium relative to funeral home and cemetery. And a casket is required regardless of choice.

Sorry to put a damper on things.

Burial is better for the environment too. 7 years or so and you've been recycled 100% in most graveyards, bones, teeth, the lot.

I'm going for this, I reckon:

Interesting suggestions but Frank Turner's Eulogy knocked my socks off - my inbuilt repression frowns heavily at the profanity, however.... 🙂

I think there should be a distinction between the song on the way in and the song on the way out - way in is whatever you want no matter how dark, but the way out song, folk carry that with them, I think there's an obligation to be cheerful.

None at all please as no one will sing anyway.
Now that annoys me. Went to a funeral recently of a church going lady. Apart from her fellow congregation and a few oldies and me, no one sang. How very rude. They all knew her and her beliefs Why go and show no respect. I don't give a toss if they don't normally sing hymns, that was what they were there for. It would do them no harm to put their personal feelings aside for an hour. I doubt that any of them very severely religious in a way that prevented them from singing. Rude!
For me I would like just a piss up at a BBQ. Not a silly little gas powered thing with burgers but my type. An open fire in the family wood, lumps of dead animal with minimal to no veg and home made booze. Inappropriate comments and piss taking are fine and a huge amount of 12 bore cartridges are to be fired. Ideally this should be in about 3 feet of snow. Oh yeah, music, the point of the thread. All my ancient punk music please on 12" vinyl which is then used as a target for the cartridges.

Hate the songs at a funeral thing. How pretentious, just die.

If you die at your funeral, you're doing it wrong

Frank Turner is great for this sort of thing (albeit a bit sweary. Especially the early ones!)

This one is very good

Bicycle Race, obviously.

We filed out of my sister's funeral to I do like to be beside the seaside.

It was where she loved to be, and ultimately responsible for her early demise 🙁 made everyon smile though.

Those songs are meant for the living "blinds" who cannot see what's coming for them ... 😆

I am coming to get you ... (in the tone of Davina McCall) 😈

In our culture/belief death is nothing to be sad about ...

I'll never forget the first funeral I went to that they played a favourite tune, it was my younger sister and she'd lost her husband, very tragic, young kids involved, horrible, then this loud invasive pop tune, I'm not sure if it lifted the mood or just made things even more disturbing but it certainly left an impact.

So me, going out, my instructions are a wake and me propped up in the corner of the room in an open coffin watching everyone get pissed, if there are anyone left by then that even know me, the way they seem to be dropping away lately.

So the funeral music.. There can be only one choice.

They can have whatever music they like. The funeral isn't for the departed.

But if it's shit I'm going to haunt the buggers.

Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

Good friend of mine had Johnny Nash - I can see clearly now. Touching moment and a nice optimistic lyric

Something by Die Antwoord, then the release of atomised LSD and pyrotechnics.

There will also be Jammie Dodgers.
