Brilliant.
I knew a couple in Knaresborough (little town next to Harrogate) - he built a boat in his garden (from scratch) and after about 10 years of building it, they sold-up, had the boat winched out and went travelling around the world (in their 50s/early 60s) I have no idea where they got, if they are still going or whatever, but their intial plan was to just travel and see where it took them...
Awesome.
I've a couple of pals who back on 2008 who 'overhanded' from Cape Wrath to Cape of Good hope with both their kids who were 3 & 4 and they still go on about it.
Time to start planning....I wish!
Wouldn't it be wonderful to travel without a destination or purpose, just because you can.
I try and do that with some of my bike rides, no specific destination, just head where I fancy and follow my nose. I've turned up some gems of trails on some rides and got cut to ribbons on others.
I've just lost half an hour of my day but gained a huge smile and some much needed relief from the humdrum of everyday life 🙂
Have seen Otto a few years ago in the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart while it was being stored between trips. It looked "used" but not "knackered", in the way a 1000000-mile Land Rover might.
not quite in the same league, a long time ago, in my motorcycling days, I met an elderly couple at a garage (filling up), they were retired and touring the UK back roads on a Honda C90 (panniers and fairing) - made me smile.
Excellent stuff, would love to do something like that. Can't see it happening though 🙁
Fantastic story, I think I've read something about them before
when I win the lottery...
Oh that was lush. Tearing up a bit when his wife died and her place was taken by her son. Such a lovely story though
That is just awesome.

Did they sail her up the west coast through villages and towns...and called her dignity 🙂
Great story, will read that all later. Sorry to be a bit tabloid here but 77 and 58, she's keeping him young I bet 🙂
On a similar note I have a friend who took off six months ago with no real agenda on a motorbike. He is travelling the opposite way but he has been in Iraq etc. It is amazing to see how well he was treated there and how friendly the people were and then so sad when ISIS were invading a few miles away only two weeks later

Planning - I think you just have to do it. No excuses or handwringing.
