Hi,

As indicated, this is a bit of a long shot, but does anyone in the East/West Lothian area know where I may be able to pick up some second-hand workbenches? I'm looking to build myself some sort of workshop (nowt flash), but don't want to break the bank in the process. As long as they're sturdy and fit-for-purpose, then looks/appearance really don't matter.
Cheers,

Andy

If you're not in too much of a hurry keep an eye on the auctions at Sweeney Kincaid (you can sign up for email notifications) theres usually plenty of workbenches when there are factory / workshop close-downs. Their principle site is in glasgow but larger clearances will be done at the business's premises, so just wait for something to come up closer to you.

You bid online but theres a viewing day for each auction first so you can have a proper look at stuff, nothing too relevant for you there just now but something useful and local might turn up soon (although look back as the catalogues keep getting updated up to the day before the auction

Couple of tips -

you have to sign up and get verified in advance of bidding

make sure you're clear on the vat and fees before you bid as thats added to your bid price

you have to be ready to take stuff away on the day they specify

its not quite like ebay - bids in the last 5 mins extend the deadline so last minute sniping opens you up to more bids - bid items you want up early and bargain hunters will ignore it

Apart from maccruisken's suggestion, and the usual Gumtree-type suspects, is anyone aware of anywhere else that may deal in this sort of stuff second-hand please?

i built my own from old pallets and studding wood from wickes (cos it was cheeper than anything else) whole thing cost under 30 quid, holds 120 bottles of beer, 30 bottles of wine and most of my power tools.... probably took a couple of days to put together

I built my own, damaged worktop shouldn't be expensive if 600 deep is enough.
