Diamond jubilee 2012 medal.

Thanks but a "pay rise" would've been better.

WTF I mean really WTF!!!

Who is getting these, what kind of stupid waste of money is that, and in the middle off the cuts that are being made it is just obscene arrogance.

£1.3bn give or take a few pence

Between 400,000 and 450,000 medals will be produced, at a total cost of between £7m and £8m.

SO they cost about 12p per person in the UK.

How much of a pay rise would that give you? Can I get one?

Not got enough time in service to qualify.

Maybe next time.

Don't forget - most of the wasted money comes from giving you layabouts the day off to ride bikes 🙄

Indeed - apparently the one day day of action by public sector workers cost billions

How does one qualify for that, then?

Convenient interpretation. On the other hand if we took 12p per person we could maybe build a couple of schools or a hospital wing etc.

Were they made in the UK? If so, then that £7-8m has gone straight back into the economy. Double win!!!

I suppose the difference is a BH is know a year or years in advance, companies alter shifts, delivery dates are confirmed with suppliers/customers etc etc etc.

Give a factory a weeks notice that it's got to be closed on monday and it can't to do anything other than tell its customers their orders will be late (which costs them business in the future in addition to the lost days profit). And the knock on effect with suppliers too, eg if a car factory closes thats a days less engines, at leas on the BH the engine factory knew it would be closed rather than being told "we need 20% less engines next week" on the friday.

Ballpark building cost for a school appears to be between £5m and £7m, so only 1 school 🙂

Just checked the solitary scary olympic cuddly toy we have in our office. Label says China.

It's an official piece of tat too.
