A nice bit of feelgood news in trying times:

A forum user and lifetime subscriber recently approached STW's subs department to ask if they could add a second lifetime subscription to their account in order to support the site. This seemingly isn't possible because Reasons, so they've instead asked to donate a subscription to another user of our choosing. We've nominated someone who we felt has had a bit of a shit time of late and they're now the proud owner of a gifted lifetime subscription courtesy of an anonymous benevolent donor.

Some people can be just lovely. Thank you, whoever you are (we mods don't know who it is either).

I have a suggestion and it possibly has been made already in previous pages, the last time you had a call for support I upgraded my sub from Digital to Print & digital, could you also add a further option to include the Coffee? Some people might be happy to to pick the best subscription and even if they don't want coffee offering 3 option - Good / Better / Best is a proven technique to move people up one level from what they might otherwise choose.

The BBC suggest coffee prices are about to shoot up due to increased movement restrictions in South America - better sign up now!

You could hypothetically have the coffee on subscription, even (or is that what you meant?). Though you'd need guaranteed stock levels to be able to offer that option.

Coffee & Mag Sub

There is already a coffee and mag sub it is just accessed separately and not available as an upgrade to your existing sub. I could cancel and resubscribe I guess but otherwise more difficult to view and access

I've flagged this up. There are plans to make this an option but it's a way down the pipeline. In the meantime if you email subs@singletrackworld.com Zoe has said she'll sort it out for you.

Mug arrived today, it's a bit of a heffer but in a good way 🤣

Also think I got my money's worth out of the amount of bubble wrap used to protect it, it was like a bloody pass-the-parcel getting to it!

Donated - will also resub when I can.

Don't forget to lean on the bank for gov support - they are effectively just passing through.

Is the PayPal domain method still live?

I'm not buying bugger all bike stuff now so want to give a little bit of dosh as and when I can.

Keeping the mag and forum going are a selfish investment from my point of view.

Thanks for info as always guys.

Poops - see bearnecessities post about halfway down page 1. https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8nws4bCVbK
Wouldn't it be great if some/all of the long-standing frequent 'member' posters showed some interest and supported STW?
I have referred to them elsewhere as 'free loaders'; in the current circumstances I would challenge anyone to dispute that.
Won't name and shame but....commenting on best seats for intercontinental flights, punmeisters - you know who you are.
Some people are beyond shame.

My original list outlines many ways everyone can help us and you don't have to hand over actual cash to help. A lot of people are cash strapped and worse right now and I'm not comfortable asking for their money. Right now the presence or otherwise of a 'P' is no reflection on anyone's level of support for us. Support us in the best way that still puts your own needs first. We are a media organisation that makes a living from bicycles. We know our place and it's way down the pecking order when the world is in a crisis and lives are being lost. Support us if it suits you and you would like us to keep entertaining you and providing you with our services. If you are out of bog roll then for ****'s sake buy that first.

Stay safe everyone.

🙂

I think you might have a problem on your 'donate' page in both Chrome and Edge/Chrome.  The text colour on the credit card is white on a white background so it looks like it isn't working.  Took me a little while to see what was happening

if you squint you can just see the start of a number (that isn't my cc of course)

As her government mandated daily exercise my gf threw herself in the sea this morning. Then texted afterwards to say that the bamboo cup is an excellent post swim beverage holder.

now to fit our dingle bells

My first EVER copy of the mag arrived today. Not opened it yet, as I'm supposed to be working.

I bet it's more interesting than the only other magazine I get through the post; the one that comes as part of my subscription to the Institute of Engineering & Technology!

Looking forward to having a read later. Ta! And have a good weekend everybody!

Donated (P for a while now) - I'd be gutted if STW "had a turn"

For the donation, I had black text on a black background (I run a dark theme in Opera)

Yup, I've already spotted that (I use the dark theme also) and flagged it up, but thank you. It's a third-party plugin rather than home-grown, I believe the guys are trying to unpick how it works.

I believe the guys are trying to unpick how it works.

I just overrode the CSS to turn the text black for me (regular theme).  Wonder if that is an option for them or it it's gets upset by the regukar/dark theme stuff

The only plugin/extension I'm running on Opera Version:67.0.3575.115 on Windows 10 Enterprise 1903 is Opera Ad Blocker
Its only a small UI issue and it certainly doesn't prevent people from contributing

I popped some into the money pool a couple of weeks ago - however, as this continues I also picked up a gift sub for a mate and a mug.

Thanks for being a great resource for all of us - and for continuing your efforts even now.

Cheers, Jay

I subscribed (full works) last week. I've been using the forum long enough, it's saved me more than £40 a year without a shadow of a doubt, and I don't have a local stockist of the mag, so thought why the hell not. I'm in the very fortunate position of still being employed, and actually being able to save money during this batshit craziness, I saw this thread and thought sod it, I'll do that.

Mountain biking is fairly essential for my well being, physically and mentally, Singletrack has been instrumental in fueling my desire to ride and really get the best out of it. I have a fairly strong, perhaps strange affinity to the institution that Singletrack has become, so cheers, and long may it continue.

I've just re-read the original post: "I appreciate that a website about mountain biking comes well down anyone’s list of priorities."

It may well do, but for some including me, the website, magazine, podcasts and all the other things you do are higher up the list than you might think.

As has been written about many a time, mountain biking benefits us physically, mentally, emotionally, maybe even spiritually (I like a good slug of JD in my tea on a frosty night up on the hills) and Singletrack represents all that is good about mountain biking, and therefore all of its benefits, too. So it's important.

It's clear from the number of posts on this topic that I am not alone in thinking this and in hoping that you can keep doing what you do. I really am grateful for the effort you are putting in in these difficult times and will keep buying stuff and donating as much as I can to try to help.

Just do me one favour: if things look like they may go even more South, shout louder, make a dirty great fuss about it, because I am sure there are many of us out here who will do our utmost to help. This topic is proof of that.

Keep up the good work and stay safe.

Donated.

I'm always a few issues behind in my reading, but right now all those ride stories are helping my mental health so much. From laughs to just staring into the pictures and imagining where we can all go ride once were through with this to keeping my 24/7-at-home toddler entertained and yelling out "Bike!" every time he sees one as he flips through. Keep on keeping on.

Hello folks,

I just wanted to add my voice to everyone else's thanks. We really appreciate the enormous show of support from you lot. Everyone at Singletrack is still working full time, on full pay, to bring you as much distraction to your current situation as possible. We've not had to furlough anyone and that's partly due to the support we've had.

As Cougar mentioned, if you've subscribed in the last few days, you won't be due a physical magazine until the next issue is due in early June. However, your Premier membership does give you instant access to the pdfs and interactive iPad editions of the current issue - and access to 130 back issues' of content, which we hope should keep you busy.

We hope that we'll get a chance to thank you all in person before the end of the year. So let us know where you'll all be - whether that's the rescheduled Malverns, or just a pub in the Dales and we'll see if someone's around to bump elbows with you and thank you in person.

It's a funny old mountain biking world - both full of endless horizons with a global reach, yet still a small, intimate club of likeminded, loveable idiots. Hopefully we can continue to bring that idea over on the pages (both physical and digital) of Singletrack.

Thanks again!

Chipps

leffeboy - you're dead right but still too many posters who choose to ignore and not actively support Singletrack.
Starting threads, posting prolifically on current affairs topics (covid-19, kier starmer and brexit as examples), posting humorous quips or humble bragging about jet-setting lifestyles without making a financial contribution is free loading - just taking the piss.
Yes, I've said it before and will continue banging the drum; they know who they are.

without making a financial contribution is free loading – just taking the piss.

To be fair, many still support the site indirectly via advertising revenue. A subscription isn't mandatory to use the site.

A few of those openly boast about actively blocking ads though. Now, that is taking the piss.

Completely fails to understand how the internet works....

Their posts are the content people come to see. More content gets more views, more views get more ad views, more ad views generate more revenue.

You need to get off your high horse, the thin air is addling your brain.
