You and the wife, or with kids?

Railway museum was very good for either of above and the cafe there had very high quality sausage rolls and bottled beers.

York chocolate story was fun particularly with kids, and masses of handmade truffles at the end.

Yorvik was a bit 'mleh' to be honest, kids enjoyed it and if you like archaeology it was interesting, but they got a bit bored of that bit and rated it more on the smelly ride near the end.

York castle museum was good. Had a very thought provoking ww1 exhibit, which I'd have spent more time on, but again kids were a bit bored. Good to go in Dick Turpin's execution cell though. Not sure if the ww1 bit will still be there.

Great city, we had a week there last summer and would deffo go back.

Drink in the Fox Inn. (Holgate Road). Classic interior.

Coconut Lagoon for Indian.

If you like Italian food, go to Lo Spuntino on Blossom St. The closest to a genuine Neapolitan family-run restaurant I ever found in the UK.

For Belgian (and many more) beers the place is The House of Trembling Madness on Stonegate.

A walk around the walls is very pleasant.

Ghost walk, the one outside the Evil Eye.
Those buses with an audio tour from outside the Art Gallery are interesting and cheap.
Castle Howard for a bit of in and outdoors.

There's a Viking Festival on all this week, re-enactments by the Castle Museum - 'Shield wall!'

+1 for the house of trembling madness, not only the finest collection of bad taxidermy in York, but also a claimed 600 Ales - all available to drink in or take away... And food recommendation I really liked the blue bicycle

Day entertainment - Railway museum.
Night entertainment - ghost walk from the Kings Arms - 8pm every night (I think).
Food - Guy Fawkes Inn by the Cathedral - amazing food when stayed for anniversary year before last.
Went to a greta curry house near the end of the ghost walk but forget name!
Betty's tea room for coffee/Eggs Benedict.
House of Trembling Madness for mad selection of mad beers...Black Jesus anyone?

Just back from a couple of days in York, great recommendations thanks everyone. Had some beer in the Trembling Madness place and ate in Rustique and Coconut Lagoon and did most of the touristy things. All top notch, great place really enjoyed it 🙂
