You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Came across the following picture while sorting through some old slides. Thought it might be a bit of fun to post up and see if anyone can name the film it features in. Not particularly difficult I would imagine, but feel free to add your own entries. Just try to stick to films that most will have seen and try to make the location pretty much synonymous with a single film (so no pics of the Eifel Tower, or the Whitehouse for example 🙂 ).
Oh, and the picture must come from your own collection and not be lifted off the internet. Let the arguments begin ...
So where is this and which iconic film does it star in....
Heroes of the telemark
Heroes of the telemark.
Can’t recall the exact name.

Mikel.
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
Sycamore Gap is the local name.
Spot on
Drac Alnwick castle: Blackadder 1 🙂
Aye there was a choice but that one is a good one Donald.

Castle Howard - Brideshead Revisited?
Edit - No, its not, is it? Struggling.....
Any idea of this one?

@Mikkel - you beat me to it, I was just thinking I'd dig out my pics from there! 🙂

@Rusty Spanner Guildford catherdral, The Omen.
Wandered over there many times late at night, always a bit freaky if you timed it when the lights went off.

AA your first one Rogue One?
Dont think so so but very close!
Well Obvious cathderal is obvious. But when I read the thread title, there was only one film that came to mind
Glenfinnan. Used in plenty but Harry Potter the most obvious I suppose.
mrb123 - there can be only one!
Harder one (but photo taken last week)

My thoughts exactly!

For my harder one up above.
Also has an iconic theme tune.
Aeroplanes.
Rubbish special effects.
The best dialogue for it is this one though. (warning - spoilers)
Klunk - Olympus has Fallen?
OAP - The Force Awakens (Sort of)

Klunk – Olympus has Fallen?
nope, though it is a sort of correct
White House Down?
(Which is a brilliant terrible film)
nope not White House Down?
Oh, and the picture must come from your own collection and not be lifted off the internet. Let the arguments begin …
Just a reminder.
OAP – The Force Awakens (Sort of)
Indeed, which is also my offering for the airbase one on page one.
mrb123 - Cioch block on the the Cuillin. No idea of the film.
Indeed, which is also my offering for the airbase one on page one.
Yep the Rebel Base from Force Awakens is the Nuclear Missile bunkers at Greenham Common.
Ooops! Yeah Force Awakens not Rogue One.
AA first one is The Force Awakens rebel base on D'Qar in the outer rim.
Edit: way to slow.

And more recently?

Ok so there are clues that make naming the film reasonably straightforward but I'll be seriously impressed if you can come up with the location, nearest city will do.
It's definitely from my own collection which may help with the country.
It's not my photo, mine are all on film, but I'm claiming it because I got married there:

Guildford catherdral, The Omen.
I went to school with the guy who played Damien Omen 2 - he was British, but played an American. Years later an American guy I shared a house with confessed that he had nightmares featuring him. Last time I saw the guy he was playing Ted, the Captain's son, in a soap called Triangle, which was set on a ferry. It was desperate.
Pistonbroke. Is that the Good, the Bad and the Ugly? No idea of nearest city, Gettysburg?
No idea of nearest city, Gettysburg?
Not even on the same continent 🙂
Sad. 😉
AA's bunkers could also be the unreleased Fast and Furious film. Is that iconic?
I have no idea where Pistonbroke lives! My other guess might be that it is a set from the Good the Bad and the Ugly, and that would probably place it near to Grenada, S Spain, as I think most of the Spaghetti Westerns were filmed just East of there
And more recently
Layer Cake?
It is Welsh Farmer apparently there’s loads of set locations still in good condition.
Yep it's the good, the bad and the ugly or as it's called here in Spain, El Bueno, El Feo y El Malo the good, ugly and bad. The set is a military cemetery built for the movie that had become completely overgrown in the intervening 50 years. It has been fully restored and I stumbled across it during planning for a coast to coast trip I run every year. Unlike 95% of Spaghetti Westerns which were filmed in the Tabernas desert in Southern Spain, this place is 800km further north near Burgos. James Hetfield of Metallica put up most of the money for the restoration and for a contribution, you can have a cross with your name on it.

Great facts there Pistonbroke. Thanks for sharing
That last one is definitely at Sad Hill
De nada. My C2C route also runs along a section of railway line used in David Lean's Doctor Zhivago which was a very well known scene of a steam train in a snowy landscape, supposed to be the Russian steppe but due to the book being banned in Russia, they used Spain instead.
Sorry, dont have any photos

BadlyWiredDog that’s the shop from the League of Gentlemen.
not the shop, the local shop!
Old age predator- derwent water. Featured in Star Wars VII (Force awakens?) and The Beatrice Potter film.
Edit- far too slow!
