So the OH has just phoned me in tears, she got through the post this morning an urgent letter from the NHS asking her to report to the Oncology department on the 27th. She has had signs of pre-cancerous cells before but now after receiving this letter is in pieces.

Sat at work in slight shock to be honest. I know we do not know the reasons, but that at the moment is the worst bit. Her Birthday is the 26th too, so have what should be two great days turned in to two days of worrying for her.

Cheers, not too sure why posting helps.

Not too sure what to do, I've said may be phone doctors surgery and ask? never been in this situation before. I suppose all I can do is support and be there for her.

Could be a false alarm, you just don't know. I suspect they want her in for a biopsy.

Either way, good luck!

Hang in there and just see how it pans out. We had a scare a bit ago and have just been given the all clear this year.

Its tough but be strong and you'll get through it. Fingers crossed for you both.

Sorry to hear that, OP. The not knowing/wait must be terrible. Is there anyway she can get in to see them tomorrow?

Stay strong and show strong. Coincidentally I'm scheduled for a biopsy on the same day (27th), full knockout job. Never the best time of year (is there ever?) for these kind of scares. But fear/worry of the unknown is the worst.

Wishing her (and you all) the best outcome.

It's very quiet most places at this time of year.

This. My wife was diagnosed with MS (the doctor called her to deliver this news whilst she was at work teaching a class of kids - fkn clown) and was a similar thing - phonecall in tears etc. I was halfway out the work door before the phonecall had ended.

It's the not knowing thats the worry, once you find out what exactly the Doctors want from her it then becomes a lot easier to deal with.

No good time to hear news like this, but you can at least be together over the holiday period and share time together.

All the best.

That's not nice news at anytime of the year OP, so this double whammy for you even more so for you. My thoughts and best wishes for you both and kids if so.

As the others have said, go to her, listen, support, share and express.

My mother in law had similar letter about 4 days after having a scan, obviously she spent the next 3 days panicking, got to the appointment to be told that her test results were all clear!

Good luck, try not to think the worst.

Def head home, be with her, and if you are looking for advice of any type.. Macmillan may be worth a call - they should have someone you can talk to.

My wife had one of those letters a couple of years ago. The NHS and Macmillan were brilliant. The consultant was also fantastic and made sure we had time to understand what she was looking at. I won't go into details as every case is different but she had the same diagnosis. A very small surgery followed by a biopsy and all was well. Total time taken about 6 weeks.

If you want to know exactly the tests/results she had drop me a message.

It's a tough six weeks tho and you have our best wishes for the right result. Looking back now while I absolutely wouldn't want anyone to go through it, it did mean we really got our priorities sorted, spent a load of cash on an amazing family holiday and really pulled together as a family unit.

Fingers crossed...

Been there this year with Mrs Egf mrwhyte, not nice. As soon as we were told that she had a 'suspicious area' in her bowel I called in sick. Haven't been back.

Any self respecting boss would understand.

This, & if they don't then theyr'e not worth working for. Mine wasn't.

give Macmillan may be worth a call - they should have someone you can talk to.

They were in touch straight away with my Mrs before anything was even confirmed.

Best of luck from me & Mrs Egf too.

muppetWrangler speaks words of wisdom.

Try to find some peace, and know that you have people here who - even if neither you nor mrswhyte know us - care.

Best wishes.

mrwhyte I really feel for you and your partner, my wife and I went through a similar thing a couple of years ago. Took just over two weeks to get the results back to say all was okay but it was a horrible horrible time. And I still don't think we've got over it properly.

I can only advise that you take some time off together and I sincerely hope that everything is okay.

Does she know precisely what they want her in for?

You could try ringing the consultant's secretaries and seeing if you can get some reassurance or more information. Or even if they might squeeze her in to a clinic tomorrow if she's prepared to wait a bit?

My Mrs had a similar letter recently and they just wanted to confirm some previous test results by taking some new samples.

Turned out to be nothing.

Just be supportive and there for her when you can.

Thanks for all the words of support. This really is a great place.

It is cervical cancer that I think is being investigated. She had a long chat with her GP who was really supportive. She will phone the specialist tomorrow to try get more details before the appointment.

In the meantime our beach walk did her the world of good then a spot of Christmas chocolate truffle making.
