Said to the OH that all I'd like for my birthday is a nice bottle of beer, so after reading the IPA thread, any recommendations for a good bottle of beer with a budget of £20? I've looked at wildbeerco and their sharing style bottles look good, but not a fan of sour beers. I love an IPA, partial to a good Saison.

I've had a lot of £20+ IPAs and, whilst nice, they just don't do that much flavour wise over say a £7-8 bottle. My money would be going to something like a barrel-aged Flanders red or some kind of crazy imperial stout.

I'd be buying a few say £5 ones, no way is the £20 one going to be worth it

depends what he wants doesn't it? One extraordinary beer or 4x nice but unexceptional ones. Have you ever tried a (decent) £20 beer?

That said, I might be tempted to get 3x Founders beers, as they are reliably tasty (and strong!) and IMO pretty keenly priced

Quite a few, my old local landlord used to share them around from the good fridge every so often and bought a few myself.

that was more directed at the poster above me! But yeah, the point is they can (not always!) be worth the extra.

£20 for a beer?  It better be a bloody big bottle to warrant £20.

Personally, I'd settle for some cheap, strong cider, a Bombay bad boy pot noodle and a swiss roll.

What makes wine worth 20 quid?

Many things can factor into the price, quality of ingredients  size of batch, quantity of expensive ingredients like good hops, barrel aging is another there.
